It's time for us to replace the UHMW plastic underbody protection on our rally car and I want to get it done this weekend. Sandblast Rally is the next week! Currently we use a combination of zip ties and a couple of bolts through the floor pan to secure it but we're always replacing some of the zip ties. I'd like to try and use bolts and fender washers into captive nuts welded to the underside of the car. They do not have to be very strong.

Does anyone have a small welding kit and would they like to assist us? Or are there any better solutions?

Thanks.

Simon

Use Nutserts, they are installed in blind holes with a rivet-style gun and leave captured threads. You can get them in both steel and alu:

NothernTool carries a pretty good variety of them locally

If you don't get any closer offers I'm game for some sloppy welding :) Let me know soon if you're interested.

I kinda didn't know about Nutserts - seems like a good match for our application. I'll try that and see how it goes.

Will report back.

Thanks.

We use nutserts to reattach door closers at the high schools. They stand up well to the kid abuse.
