Anybody know where or the best place around here to buy a Miata battery? I've only previously bought them off of the web, but I may need one quicker than that this time. Preferably "around here" would be CH/Pittsboro/Durham/Apex.

I got my absorbed glass mat battery at Batteries Plus in Garner; all BPs have them. The Mazda dealerships stopped carrying the Panasonic AGMs and went to a wet cell replacement that doesn't have as long of a life and some people have reported venting issues from the trunk with them.

Thanks, Wes! Just called the BP near Southpoint and they have it for $99 which is about the same price as the Westco I've been getting from the web. BP's is a Deka and I see this about the Deka on Miata.net...

"Check out the Deka Miata battery, made by EastPenn, has the correct vent ports for the Miata. They make the AGM/Miata battery for Westco and Marathon."

So, good find, Wes! And an easy get for me!

2 years ago, CARQUEST had the correct East Penn Miata battery. I'm not positive that they still do.

I'm using a gel wheelchair battery from BP, it was cheaper and had the same power output

You can get Optima batteries at Sams or Costco. They don't need venting and can be installed in any position, even upside down.
