It appears I've amassed quite a collection of old, non-working car batteries over the years. Of course, since they're old, I've got no receipt to turn them in for core charges.

Last time I was at a municipal recycling center, I didn't see a spot for car batteries - but then again, I wasn't looking for it at the time.

Wake or Durham counties would be great. Thanks!

Karl,

I think you can do this at the Household Hazardous Waste Center on East Club Blvd. It is just down the street from the Waste Transfer Station. Actually the page for the Transfer Station says they also accept Lead/Acid batteries. My experience is that you just need to tell them what you have when you show up and they will tell you were to put them.

You could just do like the tool bags do in Johnston County and dump them on the side of the road!!!!!

(No offense intended to those who actually *live* in Johnston County!!)

But that's the best place to put them! Along with my dead refrigerator and last years Christmas tree that I finally got rid of.

Karl,

I'll second George's option. I've taken many a large battery (car and APC) to batteries plus for recycling. They never gave me any grief on turning in one or two, but when I had a good carload, they still took them even though they grumbled.

It's not exactly close by, but American Metal + Scrap on Hwy 70 in Garner- on the right about 1 mile before you make the turn on Raynor rd if you were going to Rush Hour Karting -buys batteries. Last time I had some they paid ~$4 each.

Or, check on Craigslist, there are probably some folks who would come by your place and pick them up for free and then sell them for $.

apparently Todd, you know some motivated self starter type tool bags. dumping shit on the side of the road sounds like way too much work when the back yard is so close. well at least here in Harnett county that seems to be more the norm.

Seeing Steve (I don't know where my fuse box is) Remchek's name on the Tech Talk forum is scary! That's pay back for the Euro**** comment!

We could dump all our batteries in Karl's yard since 1 big pile is better than many little ones. :D
