Anyone ever use one of these (or similar)? Are they junk ? Company has not responded what the torque range is and if its reversable.

I have the one from Harbor Freight and it works very good.
In fact I use it when my 1/2" air gun will not brake a nut loose.
Harbor runs them onspecil for 19.95.

There's been a couple discussions in the past on here. Seems a bunch of us are pretty happy with the $70ish - on sale often - cordless Goodyear Racing (24V) from PepBoys. Isn't a replacement for a high powered AIR wrench for getting 15 year old rusted supension bolts removed, but works well for reasonably torqued lugs and medium duty maintenance use, and will go for multiple 4-wheel changes between charges.

I was happy with my Goodyear wrench, but not so much any more. On the old RX-8 with lugs torqued to 80# or so, the GY wrench worked great. On the 944 with lugs torqued to 94#, it won't touch it.

YMMV.

well see Tom, the P car is just being tempermental. imagine the nerve, a Goodyear branded tool on Porsche lugs.

i typically torgue my wheels in excess of 98# and the Goodyear will loosen them as long as i have a fresh charge on the battery. a breaker bar is your friend i have come to learn.

Try twisting the impact socket with your hand as you're hitting it with the gun. Usually works for me when the impact gun is having trouble due to low battery charge.

I have the Goodyear 24V and just got an Allegheny 24V for birthday, also bought at PepBoys. The Goodyear one is better - it's lighter, it hits harder, and the battery lasts longer.

Just make sure that you're wearing leather gloves says the guy who splintered an impact socket trying to remove a lugnut last year using this technique.

Thanks for all the input. I guess I was trying to get one tool that had the lug wrench capability along with the settable torque clutch, but sometimes multiuse tools aren't the best thing going  This one sounds like it may work...maybe I'll gamble. I considered a Sears manual breaker bar/torque wrench but thats $130 and would pretty much have to be dedicated to lugs.

Was it an actual impact socket? The whole "don't use for impact wrenches" disclaimer on chrome-plated sockets is for real; chrome plating really knocks down impact toughness.

Also....944? Mine is finally ready to make a reappearance. When am I going to see yours?

edit: ohhhh. Because you're in Maryland?

Mine was filling up with water through the roof, and losing the same amount of transmission fluid out the back, in some NCSU chem engineer's garage in Apex.

FWIW my 944 has never been totally un-runnable, it's just had some times where it ran sub-optimally.

I'm so ready to get the 944 back out to an event! For you porsche guys out there, I've only got two things to say:

030, 220

Back on topic: I saw a 12v impact like this at wal-mart, it was $24 or something. I'm sure the cord is probably a half-foot long.

Yeah, I moved to MD in '04...and I was a Miata guy then anyway. I try to make it to 1 THSCC autox a year, but I borrow a car usually. It's a lot more comfy driving 700+ miles in a weekend in the BMW, and then hopping in someone else's whip.

William - I understand busted 944s, quite well. My 944 is relegated to track events...and extended stays in my mechanic's shop for expensive repairs. He's putting the finishing touches on a motor rebuild as I type. Ouch, that wasn't cheap.
