Have you pulled a code on this. I thought the same thing with one of my cars, I couln't understand why it was intermittent and ran great once I got over idle rpm, turned out to be an EGR flow problem. I have cleaned out some of the vacuum hoses and it is better. I HATE TO OFFER MECHANICAL OPINIONS BECAUSE IT USUALLY MAKES ME LOOK STUPID, BUT HEY IT'S CHRISTMAS!

Sounds like the idle control valve. They can cause a poopy idle and might need to be cleaned. It's located under the itake manifold and abitch to get at.

I remember in the past hearing that the ICV might be an issue. Thanks for the reminder. I'll pull it over the winter and clean it.

If the engine in the 99 RS doesn't die, I'll autox it in STS, rallyx it and HPDE it. There will be suspension & brake swaps between some of those events, and I'll be getting some real autox tires - once the Avons wear out. I have my rallyx/ winter suspension and the rally tires on it now, and there will be lots of playing on the rallyx course for the next couple of months. (there are a bunch of HUGE watersplashes out there right now, thanks to the rain :D ) I need to get some low/stiff springs for autox & track. Either ground control or STi Version 6 gymkhana springs.

If the engine does die, I may put a WRX engine in it, install some LSDs, get some R compounds and go kick Marcus' butt in SM. The other plans wouldn't change. But that would involve a lot of money and time, so I'd probably just rebuild or replace the stock engine. It is tempting, though.

My plans are pretty much finalized for next year finally. The Crossfire will stick around for another year and get new front wheels that are lighter as well as custom valved shocks and then testing an evenr larger front sway bar.
I picked up the roll bar tubing for the Legacy today and it will be getting a 4 point roll bar, racing buckets, and harnesses for a start. Then at some point it will be getting some Whiteline sway bars, and brake upgrades so I can make it a dual purpose track car and rallycross car. I figure remove (disconnect) the sways for rally and reconnect them for track stuff. Eventually when the engine blows on it or starts getting weak, I will build the hybrid 2.5/2.2 like Whitney did.

I think I'm gonna take this year off. Might not even drive on the street.

I'm pretty much done with all the work on the car. At the end of the last season after the brakes didn't last quite as long as I expected, so I handed the TA over to Carolina Imports for the nasty grubby stuff. New rotors all around, and new Carbotech pads, and lots of general change-out-all-the-fluids-I-can-find stuff.

Basically that's almost it until I go shopping for r-comps, probably just in time for the first points event. I plan to take it to Mark around then to set the toe and tell me how much camber and caster I really have with it jammed to the edge of the adjustment range on both. Still kind of biased towards Hoosier, but considering a switch to Kuhmo; if Avon made their rcomps in the right size I think their reported characteristics might well be a good match to the F Stock/Body issues, but they don't.

Sometime I'll have to decide whether to fix the A/C or rip it out and spend that money on springs and other stuff for ESP. But I think 2008 will be another year of sweltering with non-working A/C in F Stock.

In other words: back on rcomps for '08, everything else the same.

So I guess I have to revise my plan, since I just got yet another 2.5RS...

Rallyx the 99 2.5RS
Autox and track the 01 2.5RS

This won't involve any suspension swaps, since I won't be going from tarmac to dirt with the same car. And they're both currently set up for their area of expertise, so not too many major changes will be needed. Yay. :D

1) rebuild the LSD in the E30. Just got to ordering the parts today.

It'll either be a glorious accomplishment or the coolest paper weight i've ever built...

2) redo the seat mounting in the E30. bottom mounts are stupid. i'm switching to side mounts and a back brace.

1. Hopefully run a full season of autocross this year.
2. Decide weather to mount the new Victor Racers I have uner the house for the Del Sol, or see what a automatic 330i on street tires can do in DS.

Well, the maintenance and upgrades have started. As of this weekend, the following has been completed….

> 16” wheels sandblasted and painted
> 16” ‘stones have been mounted
> transmission fluid replaced
> rear diff fluid replaced
> new brake fluid and tried the trick of leaving the engine running to try to flush out any air from the anti-lock reservoir. Once the car is back on the ground I'll report any change in the feel of the pedal.
> power steering fluid replaced and man was that nasty, looked like bad chocolate milk. For all you other e36 owners, if you haven’t replaced this or looked at it you should. BTW, you can buy just the rubber O-ring gasket for the cap. Both of my cars had leaks on the top of the PS reservoir. Adding the O-ring you can tell a difference when you put the cap on.
> new HD rubber engine mounts installed
> new HD rubber tranny mounts installed.
> currently the front struts have been removed and camber plates being installed.

Still have a laundry list of small things to do, but making headway.

I finished the diff rebuild and everything seems to be good!

It went from "gah why is there a bandsaw in my back seat i don't want to take you anywhere anymore!!!" to "wow.. this is the Cadillac of racecars now..." :D :D :D :D

It really was not hard at all. If youre using the same gearset, housing, and OE clutches, i'd highly recommend a DIY rebuild and screw the crazy BMW-taxed rebuild rates.

My plans: actually go to an event

But much like Todd, think I am pretty much done with 'cone' events. Going to hit as many HPDE's in the 944 as I can this year
