Phil,

Just another possibility...

Check your front brakes. Make sure they grab and fully release. Had similar problem on the Celica. Sticking caliper...

Turned out that the caliper slide pins were cleaned and not properly greased back up when the brakes were done by the previous owners mechanic. The so called torque steer I was feeling was overcoming the brakes on one side of the car with throttle, then getting it back when I let off. I had to install new pads. The drivers side inside pad was almost down to the backing plate. Since it is a floating caliper you should be able to just push on it. The slide pins were stuck! I had to pull the little rubber booties off, work the pins out, clean and grease, and reassemble. Problem fixed, no more torque steer.

So I rotated tires (LF to RR, RF to LR, etc) and the pulling is gone. I don't know how to explain it, but ther'e something weird going on now. More on that when I can actuallly identify what it is. It may just be that the car is driving straight again!

Phil, I don't know if you saw my earlier post, but Kevin had a similar issue and when he rotated tires I think it when away. If if I remember correctly one of the tires was bad somehow.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Phil,
You have a bad tire.
Try this. On one side of the car swap the front and rear tires. Drive it. If the pull returns then you just put the bad tire on the front of the car. If it does not pull then swap the front and rear on the other side. Your pull will return when you move the bad tire forward.

Is this something you can tell by a close visual inspection of the tire? Or is it internal and only shows up when driven on? Just curious...

Looking back, when I first saw the thread title, I thought to myself "Hmmm Phil must have done an engine swap." :D
