I've got the M2HCDD on my 2000 Miata. Fitment should be similar to yours, but with your better seats I suspect you'll enjoy it more. I've contemplated removing mine, as the bar is very near my head for street driving, partially because I'm tall upper body, partially because the 2000 seats backs are too short so my head hangs back over the top a bit, and partially because mine leans forward a bit.

To answer your question though, you definitely know the bars are there, but it's not bad - you still see the stuff you need to see out the back window. Stop by and check mine out at the next AutoX. If you don't intend to track you car, I'd suggest getting the Sport bar. "Enough" safety for the street without the head clearance issues. If you do plan to track the car, the HDHCDD bar is nice, but does have some tradeoffs.

Yeah... ask Robert Plank about hitting his head on a Miata roll bar. If you don't know Robert, he's not the tallest guy either. Height doesn't matter if your seat breaks.

If you're tracking the car, the M2 HDHCDD is the way to go.

If you're not tracking the car, don't get a roll bar. That's a lot of hard metal near your head for a street/AX only car. (See above reference to Robert Plank. He had a helmet on and still asked the same 7 questions for the next 3 hours.)

If Karl Kauffman is still hitting AXs, he's got one in his M2 also I'm sure you could look at.
