They are not listed any more for the MK1 cars and the mounts on the SciRocco, with less than 3000 miles on them, are failing. The right has already torn thru.
I don't really want to use camber plates because then I will be replacing spherical bearings instead. And they are pricey, altho I would probably scratch them up.
Does anyone have a big parts wharehouse that I can search thru looking for a close match in a burly strut mount?

Yeah the stock strut bushings on A1's are seriously weak.

You'd be surprised how tough the spherical mounts are. Find a set that's built right with a thrust washer to absorb the vertical loads. The Ground Control is the best in my book:

Back in the day New Dimensions made some sweet poly strut mounts that were adapted from a mix of Dasher top hats and bearings from a Mk1 Scirocco. The poly part was replaceable separately from the bearing. I had a set on my '81 Scirocco and was very happy with them. If they are still available that would be a good choice as well.

Thanks. I will bug them tomorrow.

The other thing about the camber plates is I am also trying to keep the car under $2007* because the challenge is in October this year and I might be able to make it. :)

*And it is over the limit right now. But used tires and a few other things will give some breathing room.

You can upgrade to the re-designed Golf II or Gulf III bearings.
That is what I used to use before when I had the stock struts.
The guys at THOFF told me about this-worked for me.
