too bad they don't make it in 225/40-17, I'd be all over that. . .

normally if it was JUST a tradeoff between width and gearing, I would think the added width is worth it, but in this case, there is such a drastic difference in weight as well owing to one size be "reinforced" and one not that I just don't know. What size 615's did you run Richard, and were they "reinforced" or not? (215/45-16 IS, 205/40-16 is NOT, and again, it is a fairly drastic weight difference, in this case, 2.5 lbs)

For a 2800# car, I would want the extra width in light of the weight and gearing difference. The gearing difference is truely negligble though at 4mm sidewall height. That's a little over a 1/4" in overall diameter, which shouldn't be too much of a concern.

With more tire, they will likely last a bit longer, be able to run a wider range of pressures and should have more overall grip. - AB

right, the gearing wasn't so much my concern as it was the extra 5% rotating mass placed about as far away from the axis of rotation as you can get. I fretted (probably unreasonably so) about getting a set of fairly light wheels that were 5 lbs lighter than stock, and now I'm adding an extra 2 lbs right at the very edge which should pretty much negate that (actually, these tires will end up being about 4.5 lbs heavier than the stock tires).

Oh well, at least they look better; are .5" wider than the stock wheels and carrying stickier, stiffer, 20 mm wider tires without weighing any more, I suppose thats still an accomplishment. . .

Thanks all for your help, now I've just gotta finish burning up these BFG's, anybody running an event down in Laurinburg anytime soon? I suppose the triad event in Greensboro will have to do. . .

Not sure about the reinforced bit. All were full tread. The FK451 chunked a bit as their first outing was a Phase I and II Evo school. But after that weekend the wore pretty well.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
