So I am searching out shocks for the Crossfire now that the Miata is sold. I have two choices Bilsteins or Konis. The OTS Koni single adjustable is $50 a shock more and costs like twice as much to get revalved. The Bilstein probably is not as good off the shelf and aren't adjustable. But I could probably talk to the people at Bilstein and get a more aggressive valving if I wanted before I bought the shocks to start with. If anyone could share their wisdom on the pros and cons of each that would be great. TIA

Given that you describe the car as an underdog . . . :) and that Bilsteins for a Crossfire are probably not performance oriented, I would suggest a set of off the shelf SA Konis since you would get some balance tuning ability. Put the extra money into a big bar and plenty of sticky tires and go have fun chasing/beating the "overdog" cars in DS. :)

I am swapping front sways with a friend who has a Mercedes SLK320 with AMG front bar. That bar is 4 mm larger and he has delrin bushings on it so that will be a nice cheap add on. The tires will cost an arm and a leg but I have already accepted that. I am going to give a call to Bilstein tomorrow to see what they have to say about getting a set of their HD's valved more aggressively.

I just had an issue with my DA Konis. Thankfully it's going to work out. I was tempted to be done with it and drive around whatever the Bilsteins delivered. But in the course of collecting advice, I actually was talked off the roof of jumping to Bilstein.

So I ordered a set of SAs for the rear of the car from Sam Strano to have on the car while the DAs are being rebuilt.

I guess here's my issue: How much more aggressive? What will you make more aggressive? Rebound? Compression? With a stock class car, at least until you have a baseline of some sort, I think the adjustability is a pretty big benefit.

The revalve on the Bilsteins is going to cost you a bit more than the difference in the OTS Konis, right? But whatever you get, there you are. No more wiggle room. With the Koni Yellows you retain the flexibility.

Can you get to the rear adjuster on the Crossfire?

IMHO, YMMV.

I'm not sure what I'm driving.
Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

I'm on the Koni SA bandwagon on this one. I use my adjusters before, during, and after every event. It allows me to balance the car between street and auto-x use, as well as change the balance characteristics of the car during the day. Bilstein makes a great shock, and likely at the perfect valving it is better than the Koni, but I like my adjusters....

Nope. To adjust the rear shocks I would need to take them off the car, unfortunately. I have been down both roads. I love the adjustability of the Koni but I have run cars where I need to balance the car out with an alignment and tire pressures. I was just getting opinions, but your right until I get a baseline there is no way to tell them how to revalve it. After I speak with Bilstein today I will probably have made a decision.
