i have heard the 45 will rub on the bottom of the front strut. with coilovers that may not be an issue. i have marks on my right front strut from 235/40/17 toyos. i might need stiffer springs and valving. running "sport" levels now. but this is track use not autoX.

Hmmm, that's very strange - 235/40/17's should never get close to the front struts. Do your wheels have very high offset?
(BTW, the relationship of tire to strut is fixed based on wheel offset, independent of springs, valving, etc.)

I ran 245/45/17 Victoracers w/OEM front struts on 17 x 8.5" ET43 wheels with 5 mm spacers (effectively 38 mm offset) on my E36 M3 w/ no rubbing. I recall that Rob Harvey did the same, and Mike Whitney has been running 245/45/17 V710's w/OEM front struts on his M3 in Stock class (ET41 +/- 6 mm).

Kosei K1. don't know what is up, but i have tire marks.

The 17 x 9's sound great, the extra 1/2" is good for autocross. ET40 is a good compromise for the opposing clearance issues on front and rear. Are you getting bolt-on spacers for the front (or super-long lugs)? Rolling the rear fenders should be enough for 245 mm wide R-comps, but I'd still be a little concerned about rear clearance w/ the 245/45 (V710) on that wheel width & offset - the extra sidewall height could make it very tight at the rear fender.

I have long studs and the H&R spacers.

I have decided to use a 245/40 so hopefully it will not give me any trouble.

Well, it looks like the Hankooks wont be here for at least a month so I got a set of 255/40 Victos. I did not get them shaved since i did not think I would need to for autox.

If I were you, I'd run the same tires you've been running the rest of the season. Yeah, that's what I'd do. Traction is over rated!

I would be happy to give you my old tires for free. You too can enjoy that traction challenged feeling. :D

I am kind of worried about not shaving the victos. I have read that you need to shave them for autox, not just track.

I had the same concern when I decided to use an unshaved set of 255/40/17 Victos for time trials a couple seasons ago. Turned out to be no issue, at least for me. The Victos tolerate heat very well, even at full tread depth, they don't chunk or groove like the Ecsta V700s.

Marcus - have you fitted the 255 Victos to the car yet? Just curious if they clear the rear fenders on those 17 x 9 ET40 wheels. On my 17 x 8.5 ET43 wheels, they were very close to rubbing, with fender lips rolled. With a wider wheel and 3 mm less clearance due to offset, I'd expect your set-up to be very tight.

Everything I have read says they will fit with fender rolling. I have not gotten them mounted yet.

Just a quick update. The tires fit fine with just the fender rolling. They rubbed a small groove in the fender liner near the back lip of the fender well where the plastic bumper meets the well with no ill effects. I did have a clearance issue with the wheel weights and the calipers. I am going to have Mark re-balance them with the weights in a different spot. Anywho, I like the tires a lot. I ran them at the Triad event last sunday and they worked really well. They are amazingly predictable and got faster with each run. Surprisingly I ended up 2nd overall raw.
