I have a cheap (Made in China - are they all?) Craftsman 3 1/2 ton floor jack that's bleeding its life away. I've lost the owner's manual. The damn thing is heavy but it does lift to 20" (well, it used to). There's no point in putting more jack fluid in it if it's leaking. I've had it for 3 years maybe so it's almost certainly outside any warranty.

Fix it myself?
Take it to Sears?
Give in and get a lightweight replacement?

The last is tempting since I'm now toting the thing to rallies and my poor towing vehicle is carrying enough as it is. If I get a replacement what suggestions fo you have? I'd like a good height. How do I dispose of the boat anchor I've got now?

Not everything that has "Craftsman" on it has a lifetime warranty, but it sure is worth a try. Then get a light weight jack any way. I love my Northern tool alloy jack, it was worth the $100. If my big jack every craps out I will spring for the big money to get a nice/light replacement. Having two jacks is a plus as well.

Only applies to their hand tools- I've tried several times before. And BTW, although you and I might consider a torque wrench a hand tool, Sears does not.

Simon don't waste your time. Once the bleed and refill stops working on an old/cheap jack pitch it. If you're a glutten for punishment though I have one in the same shape. You can have it.

I have one HF aluminum race jack. I'm getting a 2nd one and pitching that old one that won't come back to life.

As far as Craftsman goes. Sears has done an about face on their tools and guarantee. Now you have to buy their "Professional" line if you want lifetime guarantee. The "Regular" line has a 1 year warranty. I've always bought Craftsman and had excellent results but this new warranty idea is not helping their cause.
