I am looking for local (Triangle or Triad) media blasters that have experience with cars. I am also looking for someone who has experience with something like soda or dry ice blasting. Basically I have a rough quote from Carolina Chem-strip in Burlington for acid dip and now am wondering if non-sand media blasting might work as well or better.

Any recommendations?

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Not a place, but I recommend media blasting over chem dip. It's near impossible to get all the chemical back out of the seams and overlaps and eventually enough will seep out to ruin a paint job. Have no experience with dry ice blasting but plastic media is good if you want to remove bondo and deep rust, walnut shell and baking soda are the most gentle, removing only paint and flake rust. Might give Carolina Customs in Clayton a call and see who they use/recommend.

I agree with Chuck based on my experiences. The acid dip was a disaster. The dry ice is new to me, but I've had vehicles media blasted with good results. Just make sure you blow all the dust out.

Walter, can you expand on your experience? I have received a great deal of second hand info on the acid dip method but little in the way of first hand accounts. Did you have it done to one of your cars?

Anyone have any experience with them?

No experience, but make sure they know the difference between media blasting and sandblasting. Sandblasting can destroy body panels in a matter of minutes.
