Wow. That motor is huge*. That is a six, right?
Is that a pretty straight swap or do you need to swap computer and harness?

And, your helper really should be wearing something besides flipflops. :)

*I can pick my dinky little motor up and sit it on a table, ... once.

What's wrong with pulling an engine while wearing flip flops? It worked for me, I trusted the huge honking chain and lift. It's not like a pair of Nikes are going to save your toes if G(M1*M2)/r^2 rears it's ugly head.

True. But it is like wearing a helmet. It will not save you if the impact is great enough, but it will keep you from drooling and eating with a tube from a lighter knock.
If you drop the motor on your foot, a sneaker does nothing, if you drop a 22mm combination wrench on your bare foot, you will remember it for days. Another thing is rolling the lift over a bare foot. Way worse than having the steel caster hit your shoe.

yep its a 2.5L inline six. i was planing on swapping it stright into the new car, but then i found a deal on a 3.0L out of a 95 M3 so i am rebuilding that and swaping that  . it will all bolt up nice and easy. i will have to change the wiering harness and computer along with the pedals, master cylender and brake booster because it was an automatic.

i have nothing to say about my brothe wearing flipflops other than they are his feet so he can do what he wants.

An obvious oversight on my part that day. But to be fair, there weren't any big red stickers on the engine lift that say 'Do not use while wearing flip-flops.' , so it must be okay.

Kevin's feet are tough. I ran over one with the Highlander last year and didn't break anything.

what gear ratio does 318 rear end have? Did/can you grab the M3 diff w/ the LSD? I'm not sure which would have a shorter gear set, but i think the LSD would be the priority.

And good job in getting a sedan, theyre faster :P

I'm looking into gears and Metrix Motorsports has some really good pricing. around $650 for a fully rebuilt custom ratio w/ LSD.

3.46 or 3.64...??

http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/98M3/upgra ... /index.htm

Theres a ratio/gear/speed chart. The differences are THAT great are they..?

Steve, how different is drivin that 3.64 on the highway? What ratio did you come from?

Dan, mine is no longer a street car. the VAC diff is a four disc track version. i am having the bigger cover installed because i am boiling fluid on a consistent basis.

my top end suffered before the cams install. but how often do you top 120mph on the street.

i jumped from the 2:95 stocker to a 3:64 LSD. maybe you remember me tucked under you in the Stevie Wonders on VIR-N

i think the 318 might have a 391 differential, which would be fun but would not be practical at all and no its not an lsd  the diff out of the 325 is the same as the M3's have but it isnt a lsd either. and yeah i can just swap the m3's diff for the stock one

^^eh, i probably didnt notice untill you passed me :(

yeh i know you dont drive it on the streets much, but i wonder how big a difference a few hundred rpms at 80mph really makes. *shrug* gas mileage goes to shit i gather.

maybe a 3.46 someday. i could get a 3.38 from a '96+ auto M3 cheap, but i dont think that jump would be worth the hassle from a stock 3.23

'95 had 3.15, '96+ had 3.23 for manuals.

automatics had a 3.23 in '95 and a 3.38 for '96+
