Is there a "good" manufacturer or a "stay-away from" manufacturer for stainless brake lines, or are they all the same? Anything special I should know about them? Thanks!

I have Goodridge lines. Don't have any experience with any others, but I'd recommend this brand. I think they're one of the cheaper ones, too.

Goodridge - decent product, good customer service.

I had a set on a previous car - '93 Probe GT, and one of the rear lines burst on a drive home from work. It scared the crap out of me, but I was able to stop the car without hitting anything. I called them up, sent them the bad line as requested, and they sent me redesigned rear lines with a reinforcement where mine broke. They integrated that design change into their MX-6/Probe lines from there on out.

There are two basic types of SS lines, DOT approved and not DOT approved. Goodridge makes mostly DOT approved ones, and as such are usually more expensive than other brands. The non DOT approved aren;t bad they just didn't spend the time and money going through the approval process.
