Hey gang,

I'm looking for feedback on 2 specific tires. Sumitomo HTR-Z II and Yokohama AVS ES-100. I've already looked at the Tirerack and checked some of the Vette forums. What I need is feedback from someone who has actually used these tires? Anyone? If so, car, tire size used?

Keep in mind these are not autocross tires. They will go a new set of rims for the street. Mainly highway commuting.

Thanks,
Graham

I have had the Sumi HTRZ II 's on the 944 for a couple of years now, 235's and 245's. I have to say I have been quite impressed with them in terms of grip and handling. I would definately recomend them to others.

Yup no complaints here with the HTRZ-II on the Celica, they have been very good, are wearing well and have held up nicely to the occasional autocross/setup day.

All the reviews say that the ES100 is a little bit better all around. The Sumitomo is most certainly better than the Ecsta 712 that I had before them. I actually wanted the ES100 but everyone was out of my size when I was buying.

Ran 2.5 sets of them on my old Eclipse - I have nothing but good things to say about them. They're one of the best tires for the money. Plenty of grip for a street tire, but nowhere near the "cheater" street tires we discuss so often.

What a difference a few years makes... I won the THSCC street tire championship on HTRZ-II's in '99 in Tom's, which was mine at the time, aforementioned Eclipse. I was quite fond of them at the time. Very good tire for the money.

Thanks everyone. :D I think you've helped sway me towards the HTRZ-II. The Tire Rack is pushing me in that direction as they put the HTRZ-II on special. It'll save me over $100 going with those.

Now I'm deciding if I'm going to do same size all around or do a mix. I'm toying with 235/40-18 front and 265/35-18 rear, or, 245/40-18 front and 285/35-18 rear.

I won't buy Kumho street tires anymore. I'm very dissapointed in the MX. Cheater tire or not. So I'm afraid to try the 712 after this experience. The MX will be my autox tire (in open class) until I shred them to bits. I may try their Victoracer. Still on the fence about that.

The tires are on order from the Tire Rack and on their way to Hubcap Heaven. Hopefully will arrive Thu/Fri for Mark to install.

Went with HTRZ-II in 245/40-18 front and 285/35-18 rear. Will be mounted on the early C5 black powder coated 5 spokes. Should look very different than the factory silver sawblades!

Took the car out for a test ride last night. The HTRZ-IIs are very smooth. Either the tires or offset sizes (smaller front) have helped the wandering feature! Fronts are now about 1in narrower.

I took some pics with my digital camera but they came out terrible. It doesn't like shiny black wheels with shiny black tires. Looks like the car is sitting there with no wheels at all :o

So we took some pics with my daughters 35mm and I'll scan them once they are processed and post a link to them. The car looks very different with the black wheels. Gives it more attitude 8)
