I finally retired my "worn to the wear bars -- and beyond" Potenza S02s and had Steve/Hubcap Heaven mount my new ones about three weeks ago. The new ones have seen two autox events (Nov 14 nite and Nov 16-Sanford). I can already see some wear on the outside of each of the four tires - slightly more on the front two than the back.

My question - is this (a) normal autocross wear, (b) indicative of not running enough air pressure or (c) a sign that I need more negative camber? Or can you not determine the cause based on too little information?

What kind of car is it? If its a front driver that is lowered at all that is very common for the outer edge on the front to go quicker.

The car is a 2002 Honda S2000 that is absolutely stock. No mods, no adds. It's even still sporting the original factory alignment (however accurate or inaccurate that might be).

I'd say it is normal wear. the S2000 is adjustable, so I would highly recommend getting an "autocross" alignment that includes some negative camber up front.

The folks at www.s2ki.com should be able to help.

I hate working the course at autox and I must tell you about it, often.

The SO2 wears very fast under harsh conditions, ie, Laurinburg :). The outside edge will wear a lot, especially on heavier cars, even with negative camber. Make sure you get symmetrical tread tires. Then flip them across the car to move fresh meat to the outside.

I bought the MX's in June. A few visits to Laurinburg for the test'n'tune, school, and last event beat them up pretty bad. Then add Sanford, Rockingham and some trips to the RBC. I had to flip them last month. If they make it until this coming June I'll be amazed!

And needless to say 275/40-17 aren't cheap, even Kumhos...

I see some Victoracers in my future this summer
