Rob,

Lot's of good advice already given

- I'd start with the 75/25 water/coolant mix.
- Do you know the rad cap holds pressure?
- Have you done the coolant reroute?

Proper air ducting and shrouding is very important, because as Ryan said that bumper has a small opening. You want to ensure that all the incoming air flows through the radiator and not around it. I

Numerous larger rad options also available.

Frank, good to hear from you, how have you been? :)

I got a new radiator cap and tstat just to be on the safe side. Coolant re-route????

Hi Rob,

I'm well, just taking my usual summer break ,,,

Here's info on the reroute, just heed Ryan's note if you're still "stock" :

Could the fix be to install an oil cooler to help with overall temp reduction?
Never had any overheating problems with my car on track, but intend to install an oil cooler soon... Just seems like a good move. 8)

An oil cooler is definitely a good idea, especially on a car that is run on track. Like Ryan said, a REAL gauge is your friend to let you know what's really happening. The stock gauge on the Miata sux.

On the oil cooler, I discovered that my oil temps were above 250F in FEBRUARY! I don't know how far above, since the gauge only goes to 250F. I do know that the reduction in oil pressure was drastic at those temps so I got a cooler. Last month at VIR with 95F ambient temps, my oil stayed at about 235F all weekend.

If you do get an oil cooler, don't waste you money on the "tube & fin" type. I had one and it didn't cool squat. Get "bar and plate" model and a oil t-stat while your at it. Oil too hot = bad, oil too cold = bad too.

Probably why Chevrolet put them in the 1LE's :-)

Looks good, but over priced.

I have a setup that I have less than $100 in right now. All I need are hoses.

Oil Cooler $35

Adapter $35

Ryan is right, that is way overpriced. The “Tru-Cool” one that Ryan shows is the brand I have. It’s a CC of the another overpriced model from Mocal. I got mine from RPW if you don’t wanna go Ebay.

The thermostat is for getting the oil up to operating temp quicker. In February when it’s 30 degrees outside it will take a few laps to get the oil up to temp. With the thermostat it will happen quickly. I have an in-line type which was only $40, so I’d go ahead and get one if I were you.
