So the civic hasn't started in a long while. I have spark, I have fuel. I have checked all fuses, relays, grounds, I'm not getting any codes from the original ECU or the spare I have, and I've swapped the starter for a spare I have.

I pulled the plugs and two of the four are soaked in oil. I'm guessing that I've got a seal somewhere that's busted and because I can't find anything else wrong, I'm guessing it won't start b/c two of the four cylinders are soaked with oil!

Am I on target? Any comments?

Phil, this is hard to diagnose on the innernet, but a few comments:

- Are you sure it's oil? Covering the "bottom" of the plug at the actual spark gap? Much more likely fuel soaked. Have you smelled them?

- Oil on the plugs at the gap is BAD and means more than just a bad seal. If you're sure it's oil soaking the electrodes, then it's time to check compression.

If you have consistent spark, fuel, and air then it should at least try to start. If the plugs are just wet, get them cleaned up and try again. If the spark is not firing at the correct time or is inconsistent (maybe an igniter problem?) then an inductive timing light could help diagnose that problem.

You could also have some gummed up or stuck open injectors. That would tend to drown the plugs.

I would check the timing marks to just to make sure you have not jumped a tooth. seems like most of the Hondas are interference motors, but a tooth or two might be enough to keep it from firing and still not have contact between the valves and pistons.
It is pretty hard to oil up the plugs unless the motor is bypassing some serious oil. Can you do a leak down check?
