Fan nut on the fan clutch??

If so, it just needs to be snug, the rotation of the engine keeps it from coming loose (thus the reverse threads...).

Now that you said that, I really feal silly. BTW, according to a few posts on BimmerForums, the metal water pump has bearing issues that cause it to fail with a short life. That's the pump that's in my car now!!!
