My wife got a 76 Toyota Celica GT for a project. Looks good from fifty feet, but is pretty rough, lots of rust, hasen't run in two years, worn out suspension, no interior. Oh, and there is a bondo'd up 3"x10" hole in the roof.

Is that the one that has been on Craigslist for the last month/

You know, the "rare" one Last I saw it was listed at $900. I'd have bitten at $500, my '73 really wants a playmate.

Odds are I have a few spares I'd get rid of for reasonable prices.

Thats the one. She did talk him down to $500. If she had paid $900, I would have placed a mark of shame upon her. SHe was prepared with $650, so she also had money for the tow and got my rallycross tires mounted for the Scirocco(Just in time for the motor to really start leaking oil)
It will be awhile before she does much but body work on it, but I am trying to talk her into the cleaner early bumpers, so if you have some of those I would be interested. And down the road we will be looking for more stuff esp. suspension. Any advice or connections would be welcome as well, I have not found much useful info for anything except the motor. Thanks

What kind of "project"? Flower planter? Demolition derby? Stress reliever?
How did it get a hole in the roof? Inquiring minds want to know!

The reason this one is rare is because most of them have decomposed to various forms of oxides by now. Or have started a new life as a soup can.

Yes I voted against you joining the club.

The plan is to build an autocross car as successful as the Scirocco.
Rare as in under done, leaking, and only paletable to some.
The hole appears to be the most lame attempt I have ever seen to do a half ass rust repair. It looks like the car had a vinyl top of some kind and the roof rusted along a seam. Now if I were going to do a poor rust repair, I would hit the spot with a grinder, lay down some bondo, sand and paint. This genius, decided the trick was to cut out the offending area(the big hole) then hammer the roof down to make a pocket for the bondo. Put in a layer of duct tape to fill the hole so the bondo did not just fall to the floor and cover one of the rust holes there. Then lay in two-three pounds of bondo and sand it out. Put on some paint and you are done.

The car has a nice shape, rear wheel drive and a motor with lots of potential. The only (BIG) issues are lots of rust and little support in the suspension department. Looks like tome to get a mill, lathe, and a TIG unit.
