It seems as those my VANOS isnt and hasn't worked since i got the car. After driving a friend's M3 i was like hot damn! thats torquey.

So after swapping solenoids with no luck, it looks like i need to dig in a little deeper.

Does anyone know where i might be able to rent or borrow some tools? I think i'll need a TDC lock pin, camshaft lock tool, and maybe a vanos turning wrench and a air connector to banjo bolt adapter thing.

I can get knock offs off ebay for about $115 for the whole kit, but i'm hoping to get away cheaper. Thanks

If you are looking to make some of that yourself, banjo-ANYTHING is a PITA to find, especially locally (been there, done that). I assume it is metric? You may be able to find some adapters at SummitRacing to do the job for that piece of the puzzle. It may be cheaper to buy the "kit" in terms of time spent and materials (due to bulk discount).
