Any one know who carries the Redline shockproof gear oil in the Triangle?

Carolina Mustang has a good spread of Redline stuff, but I don't remember seeing shockproof when I last bought gear lube. Call em up.

All the times I have been in there, never have seen it. And I have bought a lot of stuff from Tom :-) Maybe he can order it for me, will find out today.

Jim,

Here is another option for you. Royal Purple Maxgear. I'm running that and it is working well. I also went to RP Synchromax in the trans and their 10w-30 in the engine. I'm pretty happy with it and it takes a beating.

I assume you're trying to protect that Eaton/Auburn posi?

Graham

sorry to get off topic, but is there anywhere to buy Royal Purple locally? I'm looking for the SynchroMax for my tranny as well.

Talk to Jerry or Ralph.

They order all my RP stuff and have it next day. Price is better than any local supplier. Tell them I sent you. They're good people.

It is nice having NAPA carry it now. I was just in the Atlantic Ave store and they had the oil in 5w-30 and 10w-30, Synchromax, and MaxGear in stock.

Jim,

Why do you need Shockproof? Is this the latest trick for F Stock posi's? :D

FYI Carolina Mustang does carry Redline 80w-140 gear oil if you just need something a little heavier than normal.

Not for use on the street and definitely not for use in front wheel drives. Jason Burns recommended that I give it a try. He fells that is provides a little more bite and has help prevent rebuilding the diff in his Mustang every month. He said he has not rebuilt it in 7 months.

He turns 60 foot times with the best of the AWD's....

From the Redline website:

Quote:
ShockProof™ Gear Oil

A unique lubricant containing a suspension of solid microscopic particles as an extreme pressure agent--unique solid dispersion which cushions gear teeth to help prevent tooth breakage and allows the use of lower viscosities. The viscosity characteristics allow the lubricant to resist throwoff and provide a film thickness greater than an SAE 250 grade, with the same low fluid friction as with our 80W140. Recommended for heavily-loaded racing differentials and transmissions, Off Road racing and problem gearboxes. Offers a "best of both worlds" balance of relatively low drag and the utmost in protection.

Jim,

Thanks! Given the "not for street use" I won't be trying it in my daily driver Mustang.

PS. I used to do 60 ft times as good as the AWD's at Pro Solo's with my Ford using an open diff . . . of course it was a mid engine 1100 lb formula Ford car on slicks. :D

Dick (who plans on being last in F Stock in Greenville in my Mustang on "real" street tires)

I guess you won't be rebuilding your diff to the national level Mustang specs :o Since Ford did not put any specifications in for backlash tolerances, they pack those thing so tight, you hear them grinding. Two faults with GM, they did publish specifications (.008 to .014 inch) and you can not rebuild the Auburn. Mine is at .012 inch with the original shims in place. When I replace the diff in the off season, I will play with a new shim pack to try and get it to .008. Since the Auburn is only at its prime for 10 launches, might as well make those first ten worth while :)
