No:

04 STi + all other modern Subarus == 5x100

05 + STi == 114.3x5

- dow

Edit: Woops.... 114.3..... my bad.

5x4.5 inches. That makes sense.

By my reading of that chart, there's only a 43mm offset 17x8 in the right bolt pattern. The 48mm is 5x100 only. :(

Just talked to Mark at Ground Control about shocks. He can't help as he's never done anything custom using the stock spring perch and spring and isn't really interested in trying, it didn't sound.

That said, he said that the *rear* shocks are the same from '04 to the '05, but the fronts are different. He also said he *thinks* a WRX front strut from an '05 my work to put my insert in. Anyone confirm or deny that possibility?

Wow. You might wanna call Tom Hoppe for this. I know he isn't racing Miranda'a STi anymore, but he was talking about getting a Koni insert for the 05 that would work. You could see.... hang on, let me IM him....

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Speaking of, someone please buy this thing! This car would be sweet to have at the events.

I realize it's a dedicated track racercar but is it STU legal by chance? :wink:

Tom pointed me to this guy:

http://zzyzxmotorsports.com/

He's apparently a *really* good fabricator type and builds shocks, too. I've got an email off to him...we'll see if he can do it. Tom says no-go on using WRX front struts for Koni inserts, too. Just too many strange sizing and fitment issues.

Also of note...Tom will be at the CCR SCCA regional event at CMP next weekend in his Civic. He's running both SARRC races and the CCPS. I'll be there in an OPM rental Spec Miata running all four races (SARRCx2, ECR, CCPS).

Come by and say hi!

Okay, more info on this for those playing along at home.

Anze Engineering says they can build me custom Penske struts. Price is $2k PER CORNER. They seemed heavy on the sales pitch but light on useful info. Too steep to find out the car still isn't competitive.

Steve is going to build me a set of 8611's. Already have a set of stock struts on the way to him. Price is less than $2k for the entire set. I probably still can't rebuild myself, but for that price I consider them money well spent. If we find the car is fairly competitive but we feel can still be improved considerably with better shocks, I guess I will worry then about going with something more expensive.

I got my shock dyno today and got training on using it. That included getting an intro on how the internals of a monotube work and what's required in rebuilding them. Very good info and Roehrig is very VERY helpful and open. I know it wasn't cheap, but I can't imagine many companies that I'm happier to spend money with as far as support is concerned, let me tell you. The *president* of what appeared to be a small but well run and busy company gave us the training and he REALLY knew his stuff. He then made it very clear that we're free to call them any time with any question.

I can't wait to tear into a shock. Just need a few more tools and something to play with. :)

Are you going to start by dicking around with a Monroe Sensamatic or are you going to play with the big dogs?
