Buying tires today or tomorrow. I am trying to decide if the RA1's are worth the extra $300 bucks over the Azena RT615's.

I am not going for a national title, just some fun in the TT's. I will have a set of R Compounds to use (V710's or Victoracers), but I want to have a set as a back up and to drive up and on if needed.

Thoughts?

For backup/street I fail to see how the extra $300 is worth the $$$. That's the entry fee for a track event.

Do ya want to own tires, or drive on them!

615's all the way.

This is an apples to oranges comparison, but on my 500 mile old 615's, I passed an STI and a C5 Vette that were both on Hoosiers last weekend. I think I like my 615's.

I have numerous track miles on the old 215's on the Miata, and now 1 school on the 615's in the RX-8. Even on a heavier car with less negative camber, the new 615's seem to be more resistant to heat than the 215's. Maybe it was my driving, but the new tires seem to talk less also.

615's all the way. If you have Kumho's why bother with RA1's?

Hmm... I would still take the 615s. They are MUCH better than the 215s, and I DD my 615s.

My 2 cents.

For a 'light' car, I would think the RT-615s are a great choice.

I used my old 215s at Road Atlanta Day 1 and part of Day 2. Switched to new 615s for the last afternoon session. Again, kind of apples to pears comp but the 615s gripped so much more that I did not feel I was sliding out of Turn 12  but gripping harder. The difference was such that my instructor thought I was driving at 8/10s trying to be smooth since it was my last session when I was really pushing just as hard. (I was probably smoother, practice makes closer to perfect)

Either way the 615s seemed to me to grip real well and I have to also ask if you have Hoosiers, why spend the extra for the RA1's

I would buy RA1's just because they will last 2x as compared to the Hoosiers and are much better in the rain. - AB

Is that better or worse than bubblegum on the bottom of a school desk?

Guy's, I'm also looking. I like Running the Ra1's on my 95 M3 on Track. Fact is I hardly drive the car on the Street now. Maybe 10percent of the Miles. Still, I'd like to put more of a Street Tire on my FActory wheels. I am leaning to the 615's as well but also heard Hankook and even Firestone Wide Oval will hold and hold up well on Track.

Does any have any experence with these? I know the 615's may overheat on Track on a heaver car (M3, vett).

Just wondering.

PS>> My RA1's are on 9x17 wheels and are 255/40.

Thanks,

Bill Gratton

My set of 615s are new, but since my car is lighter not much of a comp to the BMW.

Graham Jagger has a set of the Firestones on his Vette and used them on track so he can give you his opinions

Paging Graham...
