OK, registration is closed and it looks like we're good at 15....not bad actually. I'll call CAM tomorrow and get a final price. If we get a 600/day price, our price should be 40 per driver. If you want to call me to see if we are on time, give me a buzz at 602.3348. I plan on being there all day, so I should be able to let you know how we're doing. I didn't see any feedback about on my last updated, so I assume we're good for adding a lunch time and keeping the 20 minute times. I'll send everyone a pm or email tomorrow once I have some pricing.

See you Saturday!!

OK, we are now at 16 cars with a late entry by one of the Z car owners. I spoke w/ Jeff and he was kind enough to cap our entry fee at 40 even....Thanks Jeff!! PLEASE make sure you show up tomorrow. No shows will impact the costs and we may have to ask folks for more money if 1 or 2 folks don't make it.

here's the current list and times.....

Patrick Wellenius rwd 9:00
steve remchak rwd 9:20
Todd Breakey rwd 9:40
RodneyWright rwd 10:00
Sean Korb rwd 10:20
Carl Fisher fwd 10:40
Mitchell Moore rwd 11:00
Eric Woods rwd 11:20
Eric Woods rwd 11:40
<<lunch>> 12:00
Ryan Kranatis rwd 12:20
Kevin Butler rwd 12:40
Adam Ligon for a friend fwd 1:00
Brice Johnson fwd 1:20
Brice Johnson fwd 1:40
Brice Johnson friend fwd 2:00
Stacy King Z club friend rwd 2:20

I didn't hear back from anyone about lunch, but I'll have some burgs and dogs cooking for about 10-12 folks to try to cover most of the lunch crowd. Please remember to bring drinks, none are available at the shop.

First car is off at 9:00. The shop will open at 8:45, so no need to be there much sooner than that. I'd say as a rule, you might want to get there about 15-20 minutes early if you want some time for your car to cool down. As I stated before, I'll have my cell phone if you want to call to see if we are on time. 919.602.3348.

see you tomorrow!!

Got back from CAM a little while ago and here is what I had.

Run 1 4th gear pull 102.1hp and 93.7 lb/ft
Run 2 3rd gear pull 102.9hp and 92.2 lb/ft
Run 3 3rd gear pul 103.0hp and 92.2 lb/ft

Alot better than I expected. I was hoping for 95 hp. The torque curve is flat al the way across the rev range. One thing I did find out though is my timing is apparently WAY off. When hitting it with timing light the mark was right at the "T". Which is apparently TDC. Stock timing is 10* BTDC and most people run 14* BTDC for that little bit more power. I was going to change it while I was there to see what gains could be had but I couldn't find the instructions that I had printed off the net!!! Looks like I'll be setting my timing tomorrow and maybe get a little more power out of the wee little car!!

Thanks Rodney for setting this up!

EDIT - I may have done something funky. Apperently I may not have reset the "Engine Degrees Advance" dial on the back of the gun. I'll have to play with it a little tomorrow when I have more time.

Those are damn good numbers Todd. My car with the JR header, RX7 AFM only made 107whp at the last DD.

Did 2 pulls with -BRRLMKR:
  1. 108.9hp 103.7lb-ft
  2. 109.7hp 103.8lb-ft
That seems like a lot for a car rated at 115hp 111lb-ft at the flywheel from the factory, but I guess it depends on how much loss there is through the drivetrain. I've always heard 15% bandied about as a rule of thumb, but obviously that's not going to be everyone's exact number. How much variation is there in those loss numbers between manufacturers? Between models? Between examples of a model?

And how much variation in power is normal between examples of a model? We haven't done a thing to this car from the way it first came from the dealer, and I mean nothing. Are the MINIs rated conservatively, as I know some cars are?

Thanks!

My guess is that the variation is less between a front drive car and a rear drive car... more of a direct connection between the engine and drive train. But yeah... HP ratings probably vary greatly between manufacturers

My guess is the conservative power rating. The Contour was dynoed at either 15 or 16% drivetrain loss from the factory spec. when new to me.

The M made 208whp/210 ftlbs. I was pretty happy with the results.

Thanks for setting this up Rodney, it was fun.

Sorry for the late post, lot's to do last night and had a blast up at VIR and worked station 4 for the Rolex Grand Am race. I have to say that hearing the DP cars up close is not the way they sound on TV. These beasts have a nice rumble.

Anyway, here are the (best) results from the DD. I had a great time and I hope everyone else did as well. Until next time....

driver // car // hp // torque

Patrick Wellenius // M3 // 208 // 210
Steve Remchak // 328is// 179 // 194
Todd Breakey // Miata // 103 // 92
Rodney Wright // 328i // 181 // 186
Sean Korb // 67 cougar // 262 // 318 plus a great water show!!
Carl Fisher // Mini // 109 // 103
Mitchell Moore // 325is // 160 // 150 with the AC on!! Better luck next time Mitch!!
Eric Woods // 280zx // 117 // 136
Eric Woods // Magnum // 170 // 204
<<lunch>> 12:00
Ryan Kranatis // 0 // 0 // 0 no go on starting the car to make the event, next time Ryan
Kevin Butler // Miata // 163 // 134
Michael Bulleri // Rabbit // 82 // 98
Brice Johnson // Mazda 3 // 140 // 143
Brice Johnson // JCW Mini // 174 // 153
Craig Christakos // Sentra VTEC // 158 // 163

I just realized that I could have turned probably an extra 1-2 hp, for future reference, mazda3's need to do dyno pulls in 3rd gear, 4th gear you hit the speed limiter before the rev limiter (118 mph speed limiter). I was wondering why I kept cutting out before 6500 (redline), the fuel cut isn't actually until 7200 rpm! Damn! Well, at least I figured out that my intake is junk, time to put that thing on ebay!

Is it just me, or do nearly all of those numbers sound a little optimistic?

Patrick - you sure that M3 is stock?

Could the humid air on Saturday have affected the results any?

When my car was dyno'd with old and new engine at CAM I always thought the numbers were a little too strong. My old motor dyno'd 10hp stronger (completely stock) than any other stock motor I had seen numbers on. Not saying there's a problem, but I know what you mean Mike.

Off topic....did anyone see Jeff on "Pinks" on the speed channel? Just curious if he mentioned that experience during the dyno day.
