Wes brings up some very good points, so depending who wants to run, please indicate if your car is FWD or RWD. We'll assign run groups and times later.... let's see who's interested first. Dan, you said it's your first time, so I'll tell you one thing I did that I was told not to do. Once your done with your pull, put the car in neutral and do not hit the brakes, they'll stop the drum and your car.

You should get 3-4 runs in your half hour after they strap your car down. Kind of surreal to be sitting in your car and see the speedo hit 120+ and you're going nowhere. There's also no air noise, so you only hear the car. Get's your heart pumping even though you're going nowhere quick. And you might want to bring a camera and someone shoot the dash while you have your foot matted to the floor. Good conversation piece to show folks....

Yeah... nothing like seeing rear discs actually start shooting streams of sparks out of the wheels :D

The roller weighs about 3 times as much as the average car... and I don't know of ANY rear or front braking system on a car designed for that kind of load.

Also... the same thing applies for clutch use... getting the thing started is very hard on a clutch, best to get it going in 1st gear, wind it out a bit to build up some speed and immediately shift into 4th. Whatever you do, don't 'ride' the clutch.

Do they let you drive your own car on the dyno at CAM? Both times i've been there they've done the driving. Not that i mind...the results are the same either way. Plus that leaves me free to watch the gauges and PFC (standalone) readout.

Both times I've been they've let me drive my own... but who would want to drive a honda anyways. Your RX7 might be a different story.

Typically it's your choice. If they think there is going to be some sort of issue they will drive it.

Issue = testing a F250 turbo diesel (Shawn's). They drove it because it takes some knowhow to floor it at the right time and NOT get a downshift.

Ah...that explains it. The first time i went was last year with my '69 Camaro. They took one look at it and hopped in the driver's seat. I didn't mind as i had driven it on another dyno myself, so it was fine by me. The engine setup also intrigued them...it was a certifugally supercharged smallblock with no intercooler and a blow-through carb. Evidently you don't see that around here very much. But i loved it and it was so easy to tune. Not to mention it put down 546 to the wheels. After driving that for a year you're spoiled. Now anything with less than 400 at the wheels seems kind of sluggish...

Can we bring 2 cars? If so, I would like to get a baseline on the CRX and Corvette.

I don't see a problem with this, but 2 cars = 2 time slots = 2 payments. If anyone knows how this is handled, speak up, but I would think you have to pay for both cars and you would also be in 2 different run groups considering one is FWD and one is RWD.

just my unoffical 2 cents worth....

Yep, that's the best way to handle that situation.

Thanks Rodney. I figured that would be the case. I was really more concerned about hogging a spot away from someone else.

Count me in on April 22nd. One time slot should be plenty...no mods to speak of.

I won't need dyno time now. I went today for a basic tune and spent almost 2 hours there getting it done and watching a couple of other cars.

Wes and Stacy made good points. Make sure your car is ready to get on the dyno immediately when it is your turn. Given the large number of people I'd suggest you grid cars like we do for autox so you can get everyone in there in order. He doesn't have much of a parking lot so line them up on the street. 30 mins will go by fast if you're not paying attention. It does take a few minutes to get the car tied down and the equipment hooked up and ready.

If your ears are sensitive bring ear muffs or plugs. Standing near the rear wheel of my car with a stock exhaust it was still very loud. It is rather amusing watching the speedo run up to 140+ and the car goes nowhere. I let Jeff run it up and just watched. He did just what Stacy said. Ease it into 1st, run it up good, skip to 4th and then ease into it until the drum/roller is spinning good, then mash the gas pedal!

If you've never done it before you'll have fun.

Graham
