I thought I had everything undercontrol, but I missed some subtil info from a post I placed on bimmerforums. Here's my situation....

I have purchased a set of +96 struts hats and upper spring plates. Good. Ordered a new set of M3 H&R sport springs to fit the new upper spring plates and take advantage of the new camber from the new hats. Better! Placed new springs onto the non M front struts and realized this is the small piece of info I'm missing. The new springs are smaller in diameter than the stock springs perches and offers less than a perfect fit.

While the upper part of the spring is in good shape, the lower is questionable. I have taken the rubber mount from the original upper spring plate and it fits the bottom of the new spring perfectly. I placed it onto the lower spring perch and it fits OK. Judging by the way it's sitting, it may be ok since weight and gravity will push the spring and keep the spring in it's current location and that's where I want it.

Buying new M struts to properly fix this is not an option at the moment. Has anyone else gotten themselved into this situation? I plan on calling Dave Davis tomorrow and ask for advice.

As for the other mods on the car, everything is coming along. Installed are.....

new SS brake lines, CAI, new fluids, SHARK injector, front/rear control arm bushings and rear springs. Just have to get these front springs under control.

Thanks for any advice you have....

it is my understanding that the only diff between M3 and nonM struts is that the M3 struts have the mount for the sway bar endlink and the nonMs dont..

i think the springs should be the same size.. maybe it is just a matter of finding the right rubber thing?

id check up on bimmerforums.com

Dan, there is a big difference between the stock 328 and an M3. I've solved the problem by ording a set of M3 struts for the 328. This should get me back up and running, although I've blown my budget for this year.
