if i'm gonna run STU i'm going to need to run 255s to exploit my RWD tire width advantage over the hackaroos. i've been searching like crazy about fitment and the consensus is its not a problem w/ a little rear fender roll. surprisingly the front should be fine

anyone ever done this? any one have the tool that makes it 'fool proof"? any advice? risky biznass cuz i dont want my paint to crack

Use a heat gun to soften the paint before rolling.

I am no BMW knowledge base, but I have two questions::

1. Why not go up to your maximum allowed width?
2. Why not get a different rim offset that would allow you to fit those tires/rims?

Is fender rolling allowed for STU (I obviously have not looked this up, and I am at work).

I am sure Mr. Whitney will be much more helpful in this area. However, I would highly suggest that you run 275s (max 2WD tire width limit, IIRC).

Yeah, definitely use a heat gun but also be prepared to have to use some touch-up paint when your paint cracks anyway. (my experience with the blue 2.5RS I used to have - I haven't rolled a fender since)

well, Falken 615s come in 255/40-17, perfect. seems to be a common do-able size. some people dont even need to roll the rear, but some do. depends on offset i suppose

they also have 275/40s but that is getting pretty damn wide and a bit on the tall side. i'm pretty sure they wouldnt fit at all w/o fender flares which are illegal in ST

edit: ah, thanks Wes, perfect.

yeh i've read about the heat gun.. most people on the forums say they havent had any trouble. but yeh, that does concern me a bit

Since you have German paint that was applied after the EU banned the good solvents, I would recommend a hairdryer. The 10 yo Japanese paint was done in the cold, and suffered zero damage.

Go slowly.

Bump

Has anyone used a local shop to do the rolling for them? I'm considering having it done and doing it myself is not an option. I'm sure some local body shops can do it but I'd like to hear of any personal experiences using a thrid party.

Thanks, Chris

Dan,

I may drop by. What's your timeframe and where are you located? I'm still on the fence but I know of atleast one guy that would go in on the tool rental if you have any 'open' slots.

Thanks, Chris
