I have disconnected the air bag in my Miata. Of course, I have had a blinking light on the dash ever since. In looking at the Momo website, they mention an air bag wiring assembly they ship with their steering wheels that extinguishes the light.

Anyone know what the deal is on this? Is it just a jumper? Or does it require an in-line device such as a resistor or diode?

Or is the correct method to just punch out the light? 8) .

WOW, funny thing is I took my air bag steering wheel out this past weekend too! New steering wheel ROCKS!

DO NOT REMOVE THE LIGHT BULB!!! A warning buzzer will sound and there isnt a way to cut it off.

There are 3 wires that come out of the clockspring assembly. Red, Green and Brown. IIRC, the Red is for the horn (ground for activiation). The Green and Brown wires are your air bag wires. Per Miata.net, you need anywhere between a 2.5 - 5 ohm resistor between those wires and the lights goes away! I havent done it to mine yet beacuse the Rat Shack is in the mall in Greenville and I was avoiding that place like the plague this past weekend.

I'll post an update when I kill my light.

The 1991 I bought as a parts car had the flashing airbag light. Guy said the computer was bad and that it was a common problem. His fix was to just put some electrical tape over the light. :D

Wrong! How can a buzzer make a sound if it isn't there? Right Butler? :D

I find black electrical tape works great.

Place a small piece of electrical tape over flashing light and your problem is solved.

Its a $0.02 resistor for crying out loud!

You SM racers are cheap.

My electrical tape is faster and I already have some at home. :)

Plus if the tape falls off, you can replace it at the track! Try doing that with your Radio Smack resistor.

My air bag light has been flashing for the better part of the year. First the code said s sensors, then d sensors, then total system failure. I have learned to just ignore the light.

If you are driving properly, you should be looking out the window anyway. Right?

Some of you may find this incredible, but ... I had a piece of electrical tape over my blinking airbag light (faulty computer) on my 93 Miata LE for the 3 years that I owned it. I considered it a gesture of respect to the car's British heritage.

Worked great.

Electrical tape also works over the old/stopped mechanical digital clock in our oldie but goodie microwave oven. :)

FYI, I would use a resistor for the Miata problem but carry electrical tape for "at the track" backup . . .

Also, I cannot imagine Mike letting an electrical problem in a British car he drives "continue". Even I kept the electrics working in my British road car (Lotus). :) My British race car doesn't actually have any British electrical parts other than the add on computerized tach . . . which works fine.
