Track Dog update

Tentative drive train configuration.
Spec Stage 2+ Clutch - ordered
Stock Flywheel - lightened at T Hoff - final weight TBD
RX-7 (S4) LSD w/mating half shafts - rebuild will be required
- Any preload recommendations? rebuild kit manufacturers?

Cooling (for VIR Full)
Stock '93 radiator (for automatic, David?) with fans running in parallel
AC delete - should help stock radiator cool better due to no restriction
No A/A intercooler for SC yet
- I don't think I should have any cooling issues @ 180 WHP

For Super Charger - currently on back order :(
Stock timing
50/50 mixture 93 octane/race gas
- I think this arrangement should prevent pinging

Damn Kevin. You've been busy.
That shouldn't have been an auto radiator, but if it is, they're bigger, right?

My plans aren't nearly as exciting. Waiting for the Cooper to get from BMW's VDC to Winston so I can pick it up and no longer suffer through the pain and discomfort of being a single-car family.

I have gotten some stuff trickling in, my wheels are here. Rota is manufacturing one wheel for the Coopers' hub bore and OEM width. Nice and light (13#s) and no centering ring to deal with. Perfect.

Schroth harness is here, found a deal used. It's the DOT, clip in deal.

The only thing left are the V710s, alignment (certain to be an exercise in futility) and THSCC season pass. :P

Speaking of V710s. This will be my first year on R Comps. Any tips?

Hi David,

I'm not were I want to be, probably a week off. It doesn't matter anyway because my supercharger is on backorder and BRP has no idea when they're coming in(sound familiar Les?)

Doesn't really matter 'cause I couldn't install it now if I had it.

I was guessing about the automatic radiator because there are a couple of extra hose nipples on the bottom of the radiator. The only time I've ever seen extra hose connections like that were for tranny connections. The thing that made me doubtful was that the thickness and area were the same as the manual unit.

R tires? Drive it like you stole it! I ran the 225 width 710's this fall through Nov and early Dec. When it was pretty cold, I thought they may be too wide so going down to 205's has been a thought. I'll have to wait until this spring to make a final decision. The 710's are really stiff and don't have as much contact patch as the 700's I ran this summer. They also take higher pressures.

Why not go with an aluminum one? Spec make those too. I have a Spec Clutch and Fidanza flywheel in the Z-24.

Oil cooler? Do you have a gauge? If not the oil temps may surprise you. Who would have thought my car would see oil temps well above 250F in February weather? In my case that resulted in oil pressure loss of about 15PSI. After I installed the gauges (oil temp & pressure) it became obvious I needed one.

It's the Slipstream, 16x6.5. 56.1 Hub 4x100
Call and ask about them. Jessica usually answers the phone. I was shocked that I had a choice in colors. 8)

IIRC, they were $490 shipped to my door and they arrived in less than a week. Much less $ than than the SSRs and to say that pickings are slim in a 16x6.5 is being too kind.

Conventional wisdom says 215/40-16 on the tires?

I know your in HS, but Per over at GRM wrote that he likes the 16s better than the 15s.

Great to hear that the two things I've been working on since I started this insanity become even more important.

Yeah David, you should drive a real man's car like a Jetta. Those are about as tough and masculine as they come. I don't think VW even sells those to women do they?

Hold on, I'm running through all the "your mom" jokes I can think of that involve her "holding my boys. . ."

Wait. One more. . .

Whew. That was fun.

:P

Let me know when VW gets back into motorsports.

It's not like it was an automatic or anything.

I had an early 'bout of VW in my youth. It's taken me this long to shake it.

Well, it's been better than a year since the last time Whitney stomped me in the same class during an auto-x, so I figured I'll run BS for a while...in my shiney used M3. Maybe I stand a better chance given that we at least have the same car now...
