yep thats right, i ran on the mustang 500 at Absolute in Durham. I'd highly recommend them if youre looking for an AWD dyno. and guess you dont have much choice, theyre the closest to raleigh that i know of.. next is in mooresville maybe? real good guys there though. theyre a GIAC chip tester/tuner so GIAC keeps their dyno tune/calibration in tip top shape. who did you have in mind?

Dan,

I'm booked with Evan at Absolute for the pulls and catback install on Monday.

Well since I only beat you by 0.1 second, I decided to do the following to give you a proper several-second smackdown next time:

Koni SAs with ext adj rears
Front swaybar
New front control arms, bushings
Rear bushings (RTABs and shock mounts)
Exhaust (maybe, to shave weight)
Alignment (never done, no idea how it's aligned, maybe time for some rear toe out?)
Subwoofer

Actually these were in my off-season plan already...

Mike, what about tranny mounts? i'm told it is a good idea to replace them.

Absolute must be new. Nice to know that we have a "local" AWD dyno now. :)

Actually, I would say there is NO substitution for AWD. You saw the radar gun trap speeds, right? :)

Man, once I get the ass-end of this car planted, I want to see my trap speeds again :)

I like thi s for the fact I can bring it to an autoX, and the next time I heard "Well, you have 300 hp", I am just going to show them "Actually, this shows I only have 230 to the wheels, and my car weighs 3400 lbs. You wanna do a power to weight comparison instead?"

:D

Cosby, Just beware that they don't tune subies. If you are just looking for some pulls they may be the place to go. I'm curious to see the affects on boost and on the high rpm Hp/Tq gains so I figured they'd be worth a shot.

Main winter project.
Open up the tranny and change the final drive for the longer one found in the newer 915 tranny.
That will raise the top speed in 2nd from 55 to 62 and in 5th from 132 to 151 with the current rev. limit. That should help to prevent some 2-3 shift in autocross and to run out of rev. on the race track. This is pretty frustrating to hit the rev. limiter in 5th on a race track straight when there is still plenty of it left before braking for the corner. ( might need to think about putting bigger brake if I'm going faster).

I've added a 10 to my 328 and it sounds great. It really balances out well with the rest of the stereo. I'll be interested to see how you do it.

Well, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the RT-215s during the summer in a two driver car as they got REALLY greasy. Others say they dont have this problem -- I don't wanna get into it.

Anyway, I cannot spin the tires at the start finish, and I *thought* that the RE070s @ 225/45/17 were actally a better tire. At L'burg 2-day, I did a head to head with 225/45/17s and 245/45/17s on da' STi. If you look at the results, I did wind up having faster times on the RT215s, but it was only a few tenths (what you should expect). The feel of the two tires was completely different as the RE070s didnt 'go away' and felt better even after getting some heat in them. Also, after that event, I wound up taking out the toe out in the front, and going with more static camber with 0-toe which helped some of my tire temp probs.

So, overall, the wider tire is better. Kevin loves his RT615s, and he does quite well on them. I am NOT impressed with the 615 sizing though. I might run those as DD'er tires, but for autoX, I want as short of a sidewall as possible. As a result, you will more than likely see me running some 245/35/17s next year. What brand? I dunno. I have 3 sets lined up that I will be looking over and making a decision on in the offseason.

So, wider = better. AWD !> 245... so go 245 with as much rim as you can (IMHO). Marcus is keeping up with me on 225s, but at the end of the season when my tires were getting closer to 'race depth' (I don't shave), my tire was starting to look better. At this last autoX, Steven Rankins was running 225/45/17 RE070s, and he was fast on course (undeniablly). So, take that information as you will.

Aspect ratio is going to depend on price, availabilty, and the tire you want. RT615s, Kooks, shaved FK451s... something cheap... haven't picked a tire yet.
