I tried

Mcnair Performance - contrary to popular belief they do not shave any tires.....

Tried Tire Supply - my wheels don't fit their machine......

Tried Piedmont Tire - tires are too wide to use their big rig tire shaving machine......

any ideas anyone???? I'm dying here....

No, I meant on Saturday - I assumed Tom would want to use his freshly-shaven tires on Sunday. I'd even deliver them to Sanford!

Oh, those tires! Why couldn't they be shaved before shipment? Or did you get them from a non-vendor?

Forget my comment about Nu Tread in Durham. they cant get their
story streight. When I brought my tires there I'm told their machine is not accurate enought to take off a specificed amount and can't guarentee the tire will be round but on the phone it was a different story.
I will tell Mark Roper at Hubcapheven not to recomend them.

Piedmont Truck Tire on Westgate is the place to go. Just like Tom
and Adam posted.

They can do a 275/40/17 and they must have sorted Tom Hoppe
because his tires are stacked next to mine waiting to get shipped out
this week. :D

Actually, they have mine stacked there too for sending out (Probably not Tom's)... They tried to do it in house, and instead of shaving the first one to 5/32", it shaved it to 1/32". Not good for longevity :) Fortunately, they realized the problem on the first tire, bought me a new tire, and are shipping out the tires to their other site to shave them right. They earned my respect with their level of action, and urgency to make me happy.

Another plus? They shave used tires as well, which is unusual. - AB

All our tires (Buckley/HOPPE/VITACCO) are stacked in the lobby
waiting to go out just like one big happy family.

They already proved if they screw up they replaced the tire. Took over
a week to sort but I'm glad. However, I did learn that the $15 Tire Rack
charges is well worth the money and convience if they stock the brand
you want.

I sure like slicks. They come "shaved" at no extra cost or hassle. :D

Dick:

Do I sence , just a hint, of Prod / Formula class snobbery?
My Corvette is perfectly capable of scaring the S*&% out of me
on DOT tires but I would love to run it on real racing slicks one of
these days. See what I can dig up at the next Rollex race at VIR ???

Mark,

No snobbery intended!!!! Too much time on my hands so I tried to make a joke. Nothing for me to be a snob about. Just commenting that slicks can be less hassle than DOT tires . . . in some ways. Of course, they are more hassles in other ways. Ditto for mod cars vs. stockers.

Well the new Hoosier DOT R's ARE slicks! (except for these two thin grooves around the center)
