This is for the inspectors out there.

At work today the office help said that someone at DMV who she could not name told her that if a car comes in for inpection with the windows rolled down that I do not need to roll them up to do an inspection. I told her that I needed to roll up the windows to check for aftermarket film. I am at a station that cannot check film for transmission so I have to turn those people away. I had a jerk try to pull that on me after I told him I could not inspect his car because of the film. He came back in July with all the windows rolled down. He also had a NC registration with a Fla address and Sampson county as the county. He lives and works in Wake county. He also had a check engine light on with an OBDII vehicle. Oh yeah bald tires too. Red flags everywhere.

The same person said that they were going to send her to inspection classes at wake tech to get her inspection license. The girl weighs 300 lbs. so she cannot get on the floor to jack a car up. She also cannot tell a fanbelt from a radiator hose. But they told her the school must be easy since I made 94%, 96% and 98% on my inspection tests.

Also anyone know an auto glass shop that is hiring? :)

I had a place in Cary charge me for aftermarket tint even though you can see the Ford logo on the tint. Not going back there. Personally, I think that that's a stupid tax anyway.

Man, thats just a great example of one of the many problems with the NC DMV.. each "officer" has their own interpretations of the rules, and enforce them in their area. It's almost scary to think someone in charge out there is that stupid, but I've come to expect it now anyway.

As far as the girl goes, I bet she can get away with half-assed inspections for at least 6 months.. assuming she's inspecting in a non-emissions county. The DMV is focusing pretty heavily on enforcing all the emissions inspection garbage, while I know of several shops that only do safety inspections and hardly EVER have the DMV drop in..

No this is a low volume shop in Wake county and we have a sniffer machine. We do sniffer inspections. In fact my boss is royally pissed at me right now. I flunked his 1980 Blazer because it has no Cat or air injection system. Also broken turn signal lens. The chick who told me that I did not have to roll the windows up siad if I passed his Blazer she would rat me out to DMV. Of course when she was confronted with this she said I was going to rat myself out after passing the car. He is pissed about the rejection even though it passed sniffer w/o the cat.

I need a new job bad bad. :soap:

He should understand that you don't piss in your own bedroom. If he wants his clearly illegal car to pass, he should
a) take it somewhere else
b) forge the paperwork himself.

His illegal car shouldn't be your problem.

(But "shouldn't", amazingly often, doesn't equate with "isn't".)

I had one shop flunk my car because the serpentine belt has some checks across the ribbed side. The owners manual said that even if some were missing the belt was still good. I also PO'd a tech when he came into the waiting room with my airfilter element in his hand and announced "looks like this has been doing it's job, It will be only $xxx to replace it!" I looked through it at the light (it had less than 20K miles on it), handed it back to him and said "yes it has, and it'll keep doing it for another 20K miles so now go put it back."
