OK, well my son, Arun, and I are going to attempt to install a clutch in his 2000 Outback Wagon on Saturday and we have no clue (well not much).

So, we're turning it into a (good) beer & pizza intsall party and all are welcome. If you have any skills or knowledge that would be good too but if you want to come over and laugh at us we'll be starting around 10:00 AM.

Address is 4608 Juneberry Place, Raleigh, NC 27613

MAP

Send me a PM if you think you might drop by.

Thanks.

Simon

Hope things went well. We were in VA yesterday, so I just saw this. I've done several clutch installs on Subarus, so if you still need any help let me know.

Funny thing. I changed a clutch in the Radical yetserday. And swapped springs and shocks on all 4 corners. And changed gearing (went from 2.61 final drive to 2.76), fixed a broken side pod, some small 'dings' one of the noses, and changed the oil.

Spent less than 6 hours in the garage too. :)

Oh yeah, and I had NEVER done any of these jobs before (except change oil). Probably 30% less time for any of these jobs next time.

I love real race cars.

I helped Simon get the trans off yesterday. It took us from 1100-1500 to get it off. Wow  there was a lot of crap to take off before you even get to actually removing the trans. I have changed clutches in a couple of Hondas. Not nearly as much crap to remove.

Last update I got from Simon was the trans was back on. Don't know if it ran properly :) .

After much bitching and heaving we finally got the blighter reattached. Also changed tran fluid while there. An alarming number of metal fragments come out of the tranny. Changed engine oil too. Put it all back together and it won't start. The starter motor is not turning. After consulting with Anders (on that and other stuff) I find that we, ahem, forgot to attach the starter HT cable.

Got it running. Clutch is good. Tranny no better than before (whining). But we now have the CEL lit up. Does anyone have one of the doohickies that can read the diagnostic code?

Many, many thanks to Marcus for his hands-on help and to Anders for his remote consultations.

Simon

The most common thing to accidentally break and cause CEL's is the rear O2 sensor cable, either forgetting to plug it back in or damaging the wiring while struggling with the tranny while wrestling it back into place.

Congrats on the successful project Simon! Sorry I couldn't make it out to help.

Update: CEL went out by itself after a couple of days.
