So, saturday morning I realized that my brakes don't work so good anymore. Actually, they don't work at all. The MC leaks fluid out the rear - as evidenced by the paint on the booster tank and surrounding areas. Long story short, I can't find a rebuild kit for my MC. What's there to it? Is it just a collection of o-rings? Can I use just any o-ring or will the brake fluid eat those up?

We've got a big assortment for vacuum fittings and the like. I'm sure we could find one that fits. I was mainly concerned that brake fluid might eat up a standard viton o-ring.

You "probably" should get a new or rebuilt master cylinder. The o-rings might not be the real problem.

That said, I've had the best "brake fluid compatibility" with EPDM o-rings (used for the clutch slave cylinder in my formula ford).

In any case, if "do it yourself" is the plan, try soaking candidate materials in brake fluid to see if the material swells . . . swell is bad.

There used to be a Parker Seal store in Raleigh which had lots of o-ring materials available.

While gererally good advice, having worked extensively with brake suppliers, it is very easy to cast up an MC with low quality control and sell it. OTH, a reman unit is at least made from a known casting, unless some of the lesser new units are being remanned already. Make sure you find out who makes (as in manufacturers, not just the name on the box) the new before buying it.
