Anders turned me on to this, which I think is fantastic!

http://www.sherline.com/lm.htm

Considering how infrequently it needs to be used, though, it makes no sense for the club to own one, or to own one myself.

How about we do a 12-person buy-in at @ $10 each for one of these things? First 2 will be THSCC and me. It will live in the bus and the owners will get priority use of it, but we can certainly loan it to other club members.

Interested? If we get enough people (5-10), I'll order it and y'all can paypal me or hand me $$ at an event.

Go ahead and respond here.

I'd go in on it. It's worth $10 to not have to use bathroom scales and levers.

Obviously balancing your trailer at an event isn't the best idea, so some method of borrowing for home use would need to be set up. How durable is it to be bounced around? I'd be in for the 10.00.

As I said, it would live in the bus (or trailer) and probably with a signout sheet. Owners could come borrow it from where the bus is stored (wherever that is). Returning it would be on the honor system, or maybe whomever takes it home should email everyone else.

I dunno, we'll work it out.

I'm in.

My tongue weight spec should be between 500 and 750 pounds. My trailer is one of the larger ones around. (4800 pounds loaded) 1000 pound scale would suffice.

However, there may be larger ones... Enclosed? Club trailer? 2000 pound scale?

That 2000 lb scale still probably has enough divisions for 50-100 accuracy, don't you think? If so, then that's fine, we'll go 2k.

the 2000 lb scale has marks at 50 lb increments vs the 20 lb increments for the 1000 lb scale....

Mike:
Suggest we bring this up at a meeting and make it a Club purchase.
If we are talking $200 or so for a 2,000-lb unit, we could then make it part of the Club inventory and available to all members. Maybe we charge a $5.00 honor-system "rental".

We could designate a "keeper of the scales", or just pass it around informally. I'd rather see it stored in someone's garage than have it permanently in the trailer being jostled around all the time.

Alternative: The track Program is considering buying a set of corner-weighting scales. Could they possible by used for tongue-weight measurements by laying a 2 X 6 across two of them and adding the two indicated weights together?

Just a thought... Anyway, I'd be in for $10, regardless.

1,000 pound scale: $110
2,000 pound scale: $110
5,000 pound scale: $110

The device is the same, it's just which gauge they screw into it.

Cheers,
Anders

Well, we have 8 people willing to pitch in $10, so let's just go for it. We'll decide how to "rent" it when we get it. I'll sit on the loss for now and look for $5 rental fees from non-owners. Once I get to my $10 buy-in, any additional $ goes to the club. After 2005 rental is free. How's that sound?

Brad, your idea isn't really far off of what I was trying to say, but I was trying to keep the club from spending any more $$ (even if it expects it back). I've done enough of that already!
