Ok, I started working on the 90 crx again and I was finally successful in removing the drivers side axle. The passenger side is not cooperating and I need ideas to remove the ball joint.

See the pics that show that I broke the pin in the remover tool, notice the pin is sheared off and the stress it went through. Pics are blurry, but they'll give you an idea.

I've put nearly a can of PB Blaster on over the last couple months, I've had the pictured ball joint remover as well as other gear-type pullers on it for extended lengths of time and this one will not budge. I'm about to get the grinder out!!!

The tool....

I've always used those tuning fork shaped forks with a taper and hammered the snot out of it. Never failed to destroy/remove the ball joint.

AutoZone lets you rent them for free with a core charge in case you don't bring it back.

Been there done that, and it's not going to happen with a fork. I'm not joking, it's not moved on bit. I just noticed that my bolt on the pictured tool is toast as well as the threads as it seems it's pulled them down. Now I remember why I hate working on cars!

I may go out there and see if I can remove the whole assembly. If I can do that, then I'll press it out.

Yeah I was goin to ask if you could get the thing out and put it into a press.

Also you might want to try the heat/bang/penetrating oil/ bang : repeat cycle. This has gotten all but one stuck ones I have done. The other even got it cherry red and put it in a 20 ton professial shop press and still it never came out. Had to replace the whole spindle.

I have also used pickle forks. But when that won't work I do what my mechanic friend Mike B does. You take your biggest hammer > 5 lbs. and knock the piss out of the draglink or spindle you are trying to separate. Don't hit the balljoint but hit the part with the tapered hole. It may take a few licks but I've never had it fail. (knock wood)

X marks the spot.

Just remember, when reassembling or installing a new 'joint, use some Never-seez on the taper... 8)
