Just ordered the 5-speed conversion kit for the ol' 1275 Midget from Rivergate Restorations in TN. http://www.rivergate5speed.com/rivergate.html

This will be a cool project, not to mention making the car drivable again. No more double-triple clutching into first gear (Midgets were non-synchro into first). Also has a 0.8 5th gear! I can finally cruise at 75 and not worry about redlining!

Check it out. Very complete package. Should be fun!

Brad,
Do you have a 5 speed tranny already? A few years ago they were not very plentiful because 210s stopped production in '82.

Just received the whole package FEDEX!
Rivergate ships a totally-reconditioned 210 transmission. Ready to bolt in.
They even provide a tube of sealant for the oil pump and a new rear crank seal to stop the bleeding!
Also includes a new release bearing, CNC slave cylinder, SS braided hose, speedo reduction gear conversion, shortened shifter, clutch disc, rear mount, every bushing and bolt you need. Very complete instructions with color pictures.

Looks like a two six-pack job, though. Probably two weekends, working at a leisurely pace. Well, maybe a case...

Brad,
You might want to look at Bob Kendrick's Toy-Midget. He took a different path to a 5 speed. He has a Toyota 5 speed mated to a 3-TG twin cam motor bored out to 2 liters. To make it work the battery was moved to a box sunk into the floor behind the seats. The heater box was removed and replaced with a box from Vintage air. Yes he has AC in a midget. The transmission tunnel was tweaked to miss the tranny. He also replace the front shocks with custom built A arms and coil overs. It has about 160 Hp and is a gas to drive. :D Oh yeah more than 2 six packs were consumed during construction. :beerbuds:

Yeah, I saw Bob's toy right after he finished it. Got to drive it, too! Pretty kewl!

Didn't know about the A/C. We had the top down, anyway. Haven't see ol' Bob in a while.
