Noticed the car didn't seem to have a very smooth power curve early on, but it was subtle enough I thought it was just "how they are" and chalked it up to that. Noticed a couple weeks ago, though, that it started to seem more pronounced...at between 5k and 6k RPMs the engine seemed to flatten out fairly significantly. I did some full power pulls through the gears to see how bad it was and it was significant. Before even getting home I did another pull and this time it flashed the check engine light at me (and it went off) at about 5500 RPMs and that particular pull seemed even flatter.

Uh-oh. Me worried.

Take the car in only to find out it was simply a loose intercooler hose clamp. Picked up the car today (they had it over a week, but that was because I was gone all last week at the beach anyway) and it runs better than I remember it running at all, so the offender may have been loose from the beginning and just got worse as time went on.

Yummmmmm....more power..... :-)

Also had them remove the column mounted boost gauge that the car came with. If anyone is interested in buying it let me know before I eBay it. Comes with the column housing plastics (top and bottom) that are pre-drilled. Doesn't come with the cable (might be part of the car???).

Dan had a similar problem, but a Subaru 'flash' of the ECU took care of it. - AB

I got mine re-flashed for pinging around 4k rpm's at full throttle. Your symptoms do not sound like anything I experienced. The power does fall off a bit at 5500-6000.

I played around in the engine bay in my STi while putting in a ground loop. Got it out on the highway and went to pass a car and accelerated just a bit faster than my Nissan Frontie 4x4 did. I had left the IC hose off and had virtually no power. Felt like a normal car :(

Same thing happened again this weekend with my Volvo...couldn't see the problem though. I went to merge into traffic and had NO ramp in acceleration. Took it to the shop and told them that it felt like the IC hose was off. Funny thing was that it was the IC hose but it was just loose this time.

go to: http://www.mcmaster.com

Do a search for "T-Bolt Hose and Tube Clamps", and then scroll down the page until you come to it.

These things will fix the loose clamps on IC pipes. If you're thinking about putting your turbo car on track, get these before you go.

Hmm. Is replacing a clamp like that legal for AS autocross? I'm guessing not, but then again it's just a hose clamp...

I wouldn't do it in AS :)

Glad it was something stupid. I haven't heard of that on an STi yet though.

Maybe Kevin will chime in and replay his "joyride in Miranda's STi" from last night.

Like I posted on nabisco, anybody wanna trade your STi for (2) 2.5RSes?

Yes, I will have one of those eventually -- unless I do the STi Version 5 Type RA conversion to the Blue RS instead. Decisions, decisions...
