Are there any members with expertise in rebuilding Honda 5-speed manual transmissions? CRX Si L3 9000 with Quaife LSD.

Was working OK before rebuild - now got some discturbing noises in 4th and 5th.

I've got some tech questions for you and would greatly appreciate some advice/assistance in getting my car back on the track.

Mechanic and shop recommendations for the work also sought.

Thanks in advance - appreciate any references.

We just had ours rebuilt by a guy in Ohio that does awesome work for really fair price. Let me know if you want his contact info.

I'm in Arizona this week, out in the desert at the Yuma Proving Grounds with no phone for most of the day, but would be happy to help next week when I return. You have a PM with my phone number. You can also call late; I go to Yuma to sleep at night and the phone works there. I have rebuilt Honda single cam transmissions a dozen or so times. They are not too hard. All of mine have Quaife LSDs. I won't rebuild it for you, but I can show you how to tear it down and check it out. If you have the tools and the correct exploded parts diagram from the Helms manual, then it's pretty simple.

Excellent! Thank you Roger.
I'll contact you when you return.

I have gained an intimate knowledge of this transmission over the past 14 months.
I've got dozens of photos of the disassy and reassy as well I have poured over the exploded parts diagrams.
This is the second time reassembling for me and something else ain't quite right again.
I've also got the Quaife LSD. And this trans worked OK before - just crunched into 2nd and 3rd - hence the rebuild with new synchros.
I'm hoping to pull it from the car again this weekend and begin teardown .. again.
3rd times the charm eh?

I don't have much to offer, except to commiserate that just tonight I'll be doing my 4th (?) b-series trans teardown in less than a year :) This one took us out of a chump race, our first DNF in 4 years...

If I had to guess, I'd say it's a bearing going bad. Just a hunch. One of our trans's had really crunchy feeling bearings, so I know they are wear items. But, you said only in 4th and 5th, which doesn't make a lot of sense if it's a bearing. Just a thought.

Please let us know what you find out the problem is.
