I had to do some work to Jordan's Mini this week and replace the crank pulley. Since I was there, figured I'd replace the crank seal. Problem was how to remove. I came across a trick where you tap a self drilling screw into the seal, while being VERY careful not score the seal seat or the shaft. Man, this worked great. I took a deck screw and slowly drilled into the seal. Now you have a handle to pull the seal out. Nice and easy. I didn't know about this trick, so I thought I'd pass it along....

I have seen that before. It would be interesting to have a thread full of "tricks". Some that come to mind...

1. Grease gun to remove stuck piston in caliper. install a zerk fitting on the caliper and then use a grease gun to pump in grease to push out the piston. You can use compressed air to the the same, but you can also create a cannon that will launch the piston when it comes loose.
2. Similar to above... The bread and pilot bearing trick (google if you don't know this one)
3. Using a small socket (or some other tool) to pop loose the ball joint from Honda front suspension (not sure if this works with recent models). Remove castle nut, then use a jack to compress the spring/suspension a bit. Slip a small socket into the gap created between the hub and lower arm, lower the jack (which wedges the socket between the hub and lower arm and puts pressure on the friction fit for the ball joint. And then... pop! it's free. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJR77aN-MDk

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.
