I would highly doubt spark plugs would cause such a sudden issue. You should pull the codes and start there. Otherwise check the intake tract for any breaks/leaks first. If the car isn't building boost that would be my first place to look.

Had an issue with my Shelby with a miss and the codes to support. The issue wasn't plugs, coil pack or the cheap stuff, it was a valve issue with a failed roller. $1100 later the car runs great with no codes. Hope it is not that deep for you.

It's a reasonable place to start. As others have pointed out, any intake or vacuum leaks, however minor, can cause all manner of odd problems.

For example, my '01 bug had various oddball errors for years... the plastic dipstick tube had cracks in it (an all too common failure.) That was enough of a vacuum leak to cause turbo issues -- it needs vacuum to open the wastegate and diverter. (the plugs, ignition coils, DV, and MAF were actually bad too.)
