I recently took possession of my mom's 04 Mini S and it has a sunroof leak which has caused some electrical issues. Step 1 is to fix the leak. I got under the headliner and reattached the rubber drain hose thinking all would be well, but the drains are still getting the floor wet. Googling online, so far I can't find a schematic for where the drains run. I can see it enter the a pillar and I am assuming from there it is supposed to exit under the car or in the wheel well?

Current drain situation:

I am hoping to get this car up and running soon so I have something to drive for the rest of the auto-x year as my miata will be having a half cage welded in over the next month or so.

Also, does anyone have any experience with the different repair manuals for this car? I see Haynes, Bentley, and Chilton options.

I seem to remember not only the drain tubes on these becoming unconnected, but also clogged. Have you tried some compressed air into the tubes? That tends to be the easiest way to unclog them, versus using a unbent wire coat hanger like I did with my Volvo 850T. - AB

I don't have a compressor so I haven't tried that yet. I am planning to run my vacuum pump with a catch can through the drain. Is it possible the drain tube just dumps to an area inside the rocker? That seems like a terrible design but I think I saw a diagram of a BMW that did the same thing. I did try pieces of wire. There is a point about 3 feet into the drain where 20 gauge txl stops and so does an insulated wire out of a 14 gauge piece of romex.

I'd try a can of computer cleaner compressed air to start. That might have enough "uummph" if it's sealed.

Found the drain exits, cleaned both of them. They are a huge pain in the ass, the exits are inside the fender area behind the door hinges:

Moving onto fixing intermittent electrical issues. My plan was to first try cleaning all the electrical connectors located near the wet areas. That started fine, until I found this:

I am debating if it will be cheaper to buy the tools to re-pin this connector or just pay a shop to do it. Recommendations on a bmw/mini shop near durham?

The last time I had to deal with something like that I just found the wires on either side of the connector and jumped them. A couple of T-taps and a little pig tail will fix it right up.

Fixed!
I finally got the mini cooper wiring diagram hosted on bmw-planet to load. Also, these connectors have a locking housing where the wiring makes a 90 degree turn inside the housing so you cant see what wire corresponds to which pin. Fortunately, the female side has a stamped number to indicate pin 1 and I was able to determine the wire color based on a combination of that and the wiring diagram. Now my tach is working :).

I will also be driving around knowing I have a little butt splice in one of the main wiring harnesses :)
