I scanned the car w/ my ODB II reader and found no codes. Also did not see any options to read temp parameters, but I can look again. This car has no coolant sensor, only the temp switch for the low speed fan mounted in the head. Not sure what triggers the high speed fan.
I'm guessing your OBDII code reader is just that- a code reader.
What James is talking about is an adapter that plugs in to the OBDII port, but then communicates to your smartphone via bluetooth. You can then use any number of free apps to get all sorts of nifty data in almost real time, such as coolant temp.
I've got one if you want to plug it up and give it a shot- they are VERY handy.

Torque Pro is a good example of one of these Apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... rque&hl=enIf you get an adapter be sure to buy a "major brand". I use a kiwi PLX. Torque Pro shows coolant temperature and tracks the gauge display in my 2015 with a couple of degrees lag behind cylinder head temp as the engine warms.
Yep. I use the "free" version of Torque, and it's great.
I bought an el-cheapo adapter (like $6) on Amazon and it worked great right out of the box. So I decided to get another one, in case I needed to use the app on 2 different cars at once. Long story short, I bought 4 different el-cheapo adapters from different sellers, and NONE of them worked. I ended up springing for the $24 BAFX brand adapter on Amazon that was well-reviewed and it works like a champ, (but no better or worse than the $6 one).
I've used this to diagnose a problem with a vacuum leak, a bad O2 sensor and it's just so cool to be able to see the the data in almost real time.
