Ryan, From the first picture, I thought that was an aftermarket surround purpose built. Looks great!

Way cool, Ryan. Does that tablet run your datalogging, if you do any? That would be slick to have Solostorm running into that as well.

Give yourself a bell! I don't have SoloStorm but have TrackAddict (which I couldn't recommend more)

From Saturday at the NCR event in Wilmington, warning hack driving ahead, I was SERIOUSLY off the pace on Saturday.

I have been using Track Addict for the past couple of seasons, and it works so well with the OBD interface to get data. Can't beat it Pricewise, for sure!

My winter project turned out, in the end, to be this:

Okay, that's not all that happened. We moved to Wake Forest weekend after Thanksgiving. The new house has a 1-car and a 2-car garage arranged in an L. And the 2-car is mine. :) I painted the floor, put up some wall cabinets, and bought the world's most heavy duty, ridiculous tool cabinets:

ImageWall cabinets are up. by krshultz, on Flickr

It's a nice garage. It's technically 22x25, but the little outgrowth where the big tool cabinets are provides a lot more space. It needs more lighting, and it'll probably need some more power outlets, but it's a nice place to start. Very high ceilings too.

I also had to perform some repairs on my old Mercedes. That was kind of a nightmare. I replaced the fuse box:

ImageRound three. by krshultz, on Flickr

And used what turned out to be a faulty brand new one purchased from MB. That faulty fuse box damaged the ECU while it was in place. So a junkyard ECU, and a junkyard fuse box, put everything back right in its world. I went through a period when I thought maybe it's time to give up on having a nearly 22 year old Mercedes as a daily driver. But I was so thrilled when I got it working, and so happy to be back behind the wheel of it, that I realized I can never get rid of that car. I'm just too attached to it.

There's 2 or 3 other harnesses that aren't in that box.

Got the trunk buttoned up today.

I decided to tackle a bit more of the electrical than I was planning on. Time will tell if that was a good decision or not.

I didn't remove as many wires as Jonell since Tower let me use his scales and it turns out I need 90# of ballast.

It took two looks to figure out what is wrong, or right, with this picture. The car is parked in a lot at work (see security pillbox in the background). There's salt and sand and some remnants of snow on the pavement, so the photo was taken during the recent unpleasantness. And the car is spotless. :)

Still got a week left in winter.

First stop was the steel warehouse, this place was massive. This was just their non-plate selections. Behind me was about 1/3 that amount of space in various types of plate.

Image

I got a 4'x8' sheet of 3/16 steel. Richard bought what I didn't need. I ended up with a 4'x14" piece that I cut into a 17.5"x15" piece. A 4.5" angle grinder made quick work of the sheet. This leaves me enough for another 17.5"x14" sheet that will go on the top of the weights to make everything super secure.

Image

To mount it to the car I'm reusing my passenger seat mounts since I don't need a passenger seat anymore.

Image

Drilled the holes for the mounting bolts. Exceeding the duty cycle of my drill significantly.

Image

Tacked the mounting bars into place. It wasn't as dark as it seems, the light threw my camera off.

Image

Lots of welding. 3/16 is about the limit of what my welder can do on a 20A 110V circuit. Too bad I run it into a 15A circuit. Lots of breaker trips happened.

Image
Image

Towards the end I got tired of resetting the breaker.

Image

And here is the finished product. Final weight was 100.2lbs.

Deadline is March 1, I think it is doable...fingers crossed!

Shocks serviced and installed.
Still watching the tire flamewars. Decided to finish off my uncompetitive Rivals and make a decision later after Rival S gets some attention.
Z is still on jackstands. Sigh
Had a blast coaching the basketball team. The kid enjoyed playing so mich he is doing a bball camp this summer, which is a first.
Got the swing speed back to 100, making progress. TPI was a good idea, plus a monthly lesson from the pro.
5k time is in the 26s now...8:47 mile. Takes longer than I expected to get faster. Getting old blows.

Looking good, James. Where did you get the steel? Or did you already say and I missed it.

I can't stop playing with vinyl! Someone stop me before the car is completely wrapped!

Dillon in Raleigh.

I also just discovered that my front brake lines rubbed at some point. Time to add that to the list. Just placed an order with Rosenthal Mazda. Not a lot of time left, bringing the car up to VIR on Thursday.

I got the new Koni Oranges and my FE4 rear lower control arms installed yesterday. That should be the last thing I need to do besides a brake fluid flush before VIR, also get the new tires mounted.

The FE4 LCAs will allow me to run the newer style sway bar that is more efficient, they moved the mounting point to outboard of the spring instead of inboard. The neat thing is it has provisions for both styles of sway bar, so my 2010 oem sway bar bolted right up until I buy a new one.
