so my search for an adapter fitting has ended. Nothing exists on line (that I can find) and Wilders and Cross Hose doesn't have anything. I'm back to my original search of an OHM resticter. If what George said is correct and 180 reads high and 0 low, this might work. My only other option now would be to buy another set of gauges and I don't have the money for that.

That said, what would be a "good size" OHM restricter?

I'm not sure that all of these sending units have a true linear output. I think you would be best served if you used a matching sending unit and gauge set, and doing what it takes to adapt the sending unit to your block.

Pssst. I hear Autometer can help you with that. :P

Have you checked McMaster Carr? They have a pretty impressive selection of fittings and adapters.

well damn, it's fixed and it works...go figure. So after all my searching, a freaking $1.29 adapter from Agri solved the problem. My first miscalculation was the thread size. Come to find out the thread for the block is 1/4ntp. When I was doing my checking, all I had was some metric tap and die and the 14x1.5 is SOOO close to that thread size, so I made a bad assumption. Took the part I had to Agri hoping I might find something to fit and I did. A straight line 1/4 to 1/8 ntp reducer works perfectly.

But the fun wasn't over yet. To add a little insult to my fix, the stud on the new oil sending I bought broke when I was installing the wire. Fortunately it broke mid post, so I removed a washer and was able to attach the cable to the remaining threads. Job done.

So now I know why it always read high on the 80psi gauge, at 3k rpm, it's running at ~90psi, at idle once warm it's at 40. Pretty big difference. Anyway, happy this is done and I can stop searching for the unicorn metric 45degree union.

Here's to learning from your mistakes!

Rodney - Glad you got it worked out. Write off the "extra" work and expense to "tuition to the school of car stuff". :D

What oil weight/type are you using and how long does the pressure stay near 90 psi?

Ron? lol....

The oil pressure gauge stays planted at ~90 above 2500rpm for now. Need to get it on the road and see what it does. Oil is what is recommended, 5w20 full synthetic and I run Castrol. No wonder all the gauges from American Muscle are rated 0-100 psi.

Rodney, Sorry about that.

Interesting about the oil pressure with 5w-20 full synthetic. In 2 or 3 months I'll see what the oem gauge on the 2015 says even though the 5.0 is a different engine, of course.

I've been watching some youtube vids on the new mustang and one thing I noticed is that the oil gauge is actually a gauge that moves, instead of just sitting there like the factory idiot gauge that's currently installed on my '08. Good to see Ford make this move....

I have wondered if this is electronic trickery. It may still be a dummy gauge that swings with engine speed, only using a switch like the 05-14 cars as a oh crap light.

I think Stephen's old SVT focus used the dummy gauge like described above.

Unfortunately, even if real the gauge is probably still damped too much to see transient oil starve conditions. When in doubt... autometer.

Michael,

Realistically what are the odds that a driver would be looking at a gauge during the kind of maneuver where transient loss of oil pressure is likely? I would think a big bright warning light in the driver's field of view would be better using a "no delay" pressure switch. Then also log the output of a no delay pressure sensor on a DA system. :D

Good instructors can help you watch for this situation. :?
