I called up PC today to ask about doing a weld in half cage for my car and they told me they no longer have a fabricator as of september 30th. I took this to mean Mark is no longer associated with performance chassis. Anyone know where he went?

Also, Can anyone recommend another fabricator? I am willing to go as far as Charlotte. I talk to competition cages in hillsboro but it seemed like they were more interested in making/selling spec miata cages and I want something custom.

Define what you mean by a half cage? Roll bar? Bolt in, or weld in? I had my custom rollbar done by Chris (Competition Cages). Bolt-in and it's been nothing short of perfect. Had it done in January 2014. - AB

I will give competition cages another call. I want a weld roll bar with door bars tied into the footwell area and if possible boxed near the front shock towers. I have plans to make some composite door skins and will need some replacement side impact protection. Weld in is lighter than bolt in and I already have a modified floor pan such that my car can't go back to stock.

I agree. Talk to Chris and give him your thoughts. Also let him know you are THSCC member and let him in on your long term plans, as the request is somewhat odd (doorbars with no front roll structure). Chris can really do anything and his welds/workmanship are top notch. - AB

I was told that Mark is doing fab work at a shop near/at his house these days.

But he is no longer affiliated with Performance Chassis AFAIK.

Worst case drive to Chris' place. Pitch did with his bug and talked everything out before hand. Let him know up front what your trying to do and he will do it.

Chris does great work and I have nothing against him. But I got the same response when I asked about custom work on a Miata cage.

Does anyone have contact info for Mark's new gig?

I have an update for Mark Cooper. He is indeed going to start working from his home in Clayton and focusing on cage and chassis building. Right now he’s in the start-up phase of the new business, but Mark can be reached at 919.868.2168. Mark said a website will be up shortly, but for now you can his number for help.
