My wrx gets quite hot at rally cross.Does anyone know, of easy methods to keep her cool?Like a bigger radiator,as hard as I push her she gets quite hot .
It is common to see my temp gauge getting a little warm, when I compete.Maybe a legacy radiator, or wrapped turbo? What are the downsides of a wrapped turbo? I dont mind doing small mods, rally cross rules are different than autocross. She mostly is a street rod anyway,so doing stuff is ok to me.She is only exciting to autocross in rain.I saw one thing, that was supposed to help the car.It was something in a magazine, that somehow fitted under the hood, and directed air onto the radiator I guess.I am curious. On hot rally cross days,I have to keep quite a close watch on her.

I would make sure there is not a bunch of dirt or stuff in the fins of the radiator. On my old green outback, i would take a water hose and get between the radiator and the engine and just spray water through the fines back to front.

1. Rig up an intercooler sprayer - you can get a wagon washer fluid tank and use the second pump. You'll also need the wiper stalk from the wagon. Use it a lot.

2. Raise the hood as soon as you finish a run and park, and leave it up as long as possible. I sometimes leave the hood open as I'm moving up the 10-car line to the start, and have someone close it for me when the car in front of me leaves the line. Helps if you have hydraulic hood dampers.

3. Upgrade the radiator to a Mishimoto - big difference in the rally car and the WRX, so I plan to get one for the STi.

4. Install a switch so you can run (at least one of) the radiator fans anytime you want to.

How about a slightly cooler range thermostat and then the obvious to be sure your ratio of coolant/water is optimum.

I'd start with the really easy (and inexpensive) stuff first. Make sure the fans come on when they're supposed to. Replace the thermostat and the radiator cap if it has one. If your car still has the AC condenser in place, also check between the condenser and the radiator. It's easy for a bunch of junk to build up in there, especially with you driving it off road so much.

Weld giant steel cooling fins to your engine block. You'll have to cut holes in your hood to accommodate them.

No, not really.
