I have had HPS's on my Miata for a few years now. They dust quite a bit and like Matt said, provide only a marginal improvement over a stock pad. It has been a decade or so since my last set, but I preferred the Axxis counterpart (don't remember what it was called at the time) to HPS. The Axxis pads had better initial bite as Mike noted and more stopping power. My HPS's are noisy too, far more so than I remember the Axxis pad being.

The other pads I have heard good things about on ABS-enabled cars are the Carbotech AX6. Will probably try them after the Stoptechs.

I think I had HP+ on my S2000 for about 500 miles. Sold them to Joe Magyar. Ended up with BHPs, which were rebranded Mintex track day pads. They were incredibly good. Easy on rotors, good cold, easy to modulate, and even fairly quiet. Lots of dust, but it was at least non-corrosive.

I've become a big fan of Raybestos brake pads for street cars lately. I've got their older, semi-metallic formulation on my Mercedes, and they're GREAT. They stop the car very well, but without the on/off switch feel that stock German car pads sometimes have (the stock MB pads are especially this way). These replaced some Akebono Euro Ceramics, which I genuinely hated. They weren't strong enough to even engage the ABS. But I like the Raybestos pads so much that I sought them out for my Miata.

Another cool thing about Raybestos pads - lots of other companies rebrand them. Carquest's house brand pads are made by Raybestos. I bought their lower-tier pads on closeout. They're an older Raybestos formulation which is sort of a ceramic/metallic hybrid. They stop great, are easy to modulate, generate minimal dust, and are quiet. Best of all? $60 for the whole car. :)

The PO of my Mustang had installed Hawk HPS pads, and for a street pad they dust like a mofo. I ditched them for Monroe Ceramics, which have almost zero dust.

That describes the stock pads on a BRZ.

I was really surprised by how tame the pads are that come on the BRZs after driving Shawn's at Cherry Point last month.

The ST is the polar opposite unfortunately. They are ridiculously touchy, dust, smell, and heel toeing is tough for sure.

I am far removed from "what the cool kids use" these days. But my preference for better than stock "street" pads is PBR/Axxis Ultimate and then HPS. Recently HPS as they are easier to find. It may be awhile before I need to change off the factory pads on the Fit, but I likely will see if there is a PBR version when the time comes.

I'm a big fan for the Stoptech SP and Axxis Ultimates (some think they are the same pad given PBR is the parent company of both but I've run them on different cars so I can't really comment). The cars I've driven with HPS/HP+ didn't excite me enough to pay double for what Stoptechs/Axxis Ults can do for a lot less dough. I have the Portfield R4s pads on the E46 and they are a bit noisy but boy they stop well and tolerate heat really well for a 'street' pad.

I like the AX6's for street use. It's like a HP+, but will tolerate more heat. I also found them very easy to modulate, but I don't have ABS. I've used them at the track, but they evaporate quickly under hard braking. Of course for less than half the $ you can get some Axxis/PBR Ultimates, which are also pretty good. My brother uses and likes the Ultimates for street/AX use, but I'm all baller status, so I'll keep using the AX6's.
